How Maestro Works For Online Betting

How To Fund Your Account

It is a relatively straightforward task to fund a betting account that you have opened with a Maestro debit card, all you will need is your card and its details and to have the log in details for the bookie you wish to make a deposit with.

Steps:

> Log into your sports betting account using your usual log in details and then head over to the ‘My Account’ section of the site (or its equivalent). Once there locate the ‘Deposit’ option and click on it.

> In this section, you will see a list of payment options that are available on your current site. Locate the option for Maestro and click on it. If it is not listed by name, then you may find Maestro services under the ‘Debit Card’ option.

> When you have loaded up the correct payment section, simply enter in the requested details from your card. Usually this will involve entering your card number, its usage dates and other information from the front or reverse of the card.

How much information you are asked to enter does depend somewhat on the bookmaker in question.

> When the information has been completed, click on the ‘Deposit’ button and the process to complete your transaction will start. At this point, if you are part of the MasterCard SecureCode network, then you will be prompted to enter additional security information at this point.

If you complete the above successfully and you have funds available in your account, then your deposit will be successful and the funds should be transferred into your chosen sports betting account instantly.

Remember, as Maestro is a debit card, you must have funds available in your bank account to cover the deposit you wish to make in order for your deposit to progress smoothly.

How To Withdraw Using Maestro

Let’s now imagine that you have won some cash at one of the Maestro accepted betting sites listed above and want to now withdraw those winnings. The important thing to note here is that you will only be able to withdraw back to the same card you used to deposit with.

If your Maestro card has not already been used on the site then it is unlikely (unless you can do this via an e-wallet payment facility) that you’ll be able to withdraw cash to the card until you have used it for a deposit to your account.

With Maestro the most you can withdraw in a single transaction is £5,000.

Steps:

> If you are satisfied your cash can be withdrawn, simply head to the ‘My Account’ section of the site and click on Withdraw. Enter in how much of your balance you want to withdraw (bearing in mind the withdrawal limits of the site) and then select the Maestro Card as the method to withdraw to.

> Then click on the proceed button to start the withdrawal process and the transaction will start to be processed. Usually a withdrawal to a debit card such as Maestro takes between 2 and 5 working days depending on the site.

> You may also receive a notification that your withdrawal has been completed successfully, although not all sites offer this.

Are there any fees?

Generally if you make a deposit or a withdrawal using a Maestro card to a reputable betting site then the site will not charge you for either of these processes.

If your deposit or withdrawal is declined for any reason, then there are also no fees payable should this happen.

*None of the our top 5 Maestro betting sites charge any fees for this payment method.

Alternatives to Maestro Card

If you use your Maestro Card as a method to access funds in your bank account, then one possible alternative to Maestro Card is the Visa Debit Card. This is Visa’s alternative to MasterCard’s Maestro debit payment system and it is used in exactly the same way as a Maestro card.

Indeed, credit and debit cards are both used in very similar ways at online bookmakers, the only difference being debit cards access existing funds, while credit cards use a line of credit to fund the account.

About Maestro Card

Maestro Card was founded in 1992 by credit card company MasterCard. They are a debit card, that are either linked to the holders current bank account (and thus linked to the holder’s associate bank), or they can also be pre-loaded with cash and used as a prepaid card.

In the UK, Maestro took over the debit payment system Switch several years ago, although rebranded, it operated as Switch had done and was slightly different to the standard international Maestro system, although this was changed in 2011 to bring both types of payment into the standard International form.

Maestro debit cards parent company is MasterCard Incorporated and this was founded in December 1966, initially as Master Charge before it was rebranded as MasterCard in 1979. It was formed as a competitor to the BankAmericard (Visa) card issued by the Bank of America.

The company is one of the largest financial organisations in the world and has recently been working with Apple to develop the Apple Pay contactless mobile wallet operation on new iPhone and Apple Watch devices.
