Lucky 15 Vs Yankee – Which is the Best Bet?

Multiple bets are a higher risk option for any punter and they have the potential to generate high returns for a small stake amount.

When you want to make a multiple bet of four selections that is not an accumulator, then you essentially have two options. A Lucky 15 or a Yankee bet.

In this article, we’ll examine what these bets are and which is the best option for you as a punter.

What is a Lucky 15 Bet?

A Lucky 15 bet is a multiple wager consisting of four selections, which bundles together 15 different types of bets into a single transaction.

The 15 bets that make up a Lucky 15 bet are as follows:

  • 4x single bets.
  • 6x double bets – all combinations of bets are covered as doubles.
  • 4x trebles – again all combinations of trebles are covered.
  • 1x 4-fold accumulator bet.

In order to receive a return on their bet one of the punters four selections must win, although in this case, the returns are generally small. However, the more selections that win the greater the returns will be with far greater returns available for three or four successful selections.

What is a Yankee Bet?

A Yankee Bet is a wager consisting of four selections, just like a Lucky 15 bet, however in a Yankee bet none of the single wagers are placed. This means that instead of 15 bets a Yankee consists of 11 bets:

  • 6x doubles: Selections 1 & 2, 1 & 3, 1 & 4, 2 & 3, 2 & 4 and 3 & 4.
  • 4x trebles: 1 2 & 3, 1 2 & 4, 1 3 & 4, 2, 3 & 4.
  • One four-fold accumulator – 1, 2, 3 and 4.

In order to generate a return, a punter must see two of their four selections win (which will generate a return from a single double bet) with the more winners a punter picks resulting in greater returns from the bet.

Lucky 15 Bet or Yankee Bet

How do each of these bet types compare with the other? Let’s now have a closer look at the key similarities and differences between each bet:

Lucky 15 Bet Positives & Negatives

+ Return for just one winner – just a single winner on a Lucky 15 bet and you are guaranteed a return. This isn’t the case with the Yankee bet which requires at least two.

+ All betting options are covered – A Lucky 15 bet covers every conceivable winning combination of bet thanks to the fact it covers single bets too. A Yankee does not cover single bets.

+ Some solid Lucky 15 promotions around – There are a couple of excellent promotions for Lucky 15 bets available for punters, more so than are available for Yankee bets.

+ Fourfold acca bet is included: one of your 15 selections is an accumulator of all four choices.

– Can be expensive to place – a Lucky 15 is 15 separate bets bundled together, a Yankee is 11 separate bets. This means for a unit cost or £1, it would cost £15 to place a Lucky 15, but £11 to place a Yankee.

– Less profit when partially successful – due to the additional cost of placing a Lucky 15 bet, you are less likely to make a profit if only one or possibly two of your selections come in.

– Hard to understand for beginners – given the number of multiples in a Lucky 15, it is a more complicated bet to place and understand than a simple accumulator or even the fewer selections Yankee bet.

Yankee Bet Positives & Negatives

+ Cheaper than Lucky 15 – A yankee bet contains four fewer selections than a Lucky 15, so is cheaper to place.

+ Win and you are more likely to make a profit – If you win with a single selection on a Lucky 15 bet, you may not break even on the bet. Win on a Yankee bet and that means two selections have come in, giving you a far better chance of profit on the bet.

+ Fourfold acca bet is included – One of your 11 selections is an accumulator of all four choices.

– No single selections – With a Yankee bet you must hit two or more winners to guarantee a return. This means if just one of your selections wins, you won’t get anything back at all, unlike a Lucky 15 bet that would generate a return.

When is a Lucky 15 bet the better option?

A Lucky 15 bet is probably the better option when compared to a Yankee bet when you feel that the majority of your selections are longer odds and when you are only particularly confident that one of your selections will come in. See our recommended bookmakers for Luck 15 betting and make sure you get max value from all the bets you place.

When is a Yankee the better option?

A Yankee bet is likely the better option when you believe that two or more of your selections have a very good chance of winning, but where backing as a single bet would only guarantee a very low return and may not cover your initial wager.
