How Mastercard Works For Online Betting

How To Fund Your Account

Adding funds to a betting account using a MasterCard is generally a very simple process if you follow the steps outlined below. All you will need to hand is your card and to have your bookmaker account details to hand.

Step 1 – Log into your Sports Betting account using your log in details and when you have accessed the site visit the section of the site that deals with your account. In that section there will be an option for you to deposit funds into your account. Click on that to load it up.

Deposit Using MasterCardStep 2 – Now you must select which payment method you are going to use to deposit funds into your account. MasterCard may well be listed, but if it is not, then select the Credit Card or Debit Card option from the list, depending on what you’re using.

Step 3 – At this point you then start to enter data from your card, usually this involves entering the 16 digit number across the front of the card, the expiry date of the card and the security code on the reverse of the card. Some sites may also ask you for the starting date of the card.

You now simply need to decide how much you want to deposit into your chosen betting account from your card. Remember, you will need to have funds available of at least your deposit amount in order for your card deposit to be accepted.

Step 4 – Once you initiate the process to deposit funds, you may then be sent to the MasterCard SecureCode page which is a further security check from your credit card provider to ensure that you are accessing these funds. Enter the required data to confirm you want the deposit to proceed.

Once you have passed the SecureCode test, your deposit will proceed and if it is accepted, funds will be added to your sports betting account instantly.

Note: The process will be more or less the same at any of the Mastercard accepted betting sites listed in our table above.

How To Withdraw From Your Account

Of course, if you get lucky then you could end up with some money sitting in your betting account that you may wish to spend elsewhere. So, how can you go about transferring this cash back to your MasterCard?

The first thing to note is that you will need to have registered your MasterCard when making a deposit before you can withdraw to the card. You may be able to do it via an e-wallet service (such as PayPal) where you have your MasterCard set up on the e-Wallet service and you can withdraw funds to that and then back to your card, but this process is considerably longer and less convenient.

If you have used your MasterCard to deposit on the site then the first thing to do is check what the minimum and maximum withdrawal limits are on funds. Most sites allow withdrawals starting at around £10 and can have very different upper limits.

It is also worth checking that the funds can be released and are not part of a bonus offer or perhaps need a wagering requirement to be met before they can be released back onto your MasterCard.

Steps to take:

Assuming though that your funds can be withdrawn, simply visit the My Account section, select Withdrawals and then select the MasterCard to withdraw to. Finally, enter the amount of cash you want to withdraw back to your card and enter any additional card details the site requires from you and click withdraw to start the process.

Withdrawal’s usually take a few days to process. Most sites the time is between 2 and 5 working days for the cash to be added back into your account, although this does vary from site to site.

You will NOT be able to withdraw back to a credit card, bookmakers don’t allow this, so if you deposited using one you’ll need to select a different withdrawal option.

Fees – Does it cost anything?

Most reputable bookmaking sites will not charge customers when they make a deposit or a withdrawal to their MasterCard and we’ve been sure to only include Mastercard friendly betting sites which are without fee in our ratings table above.

Nor will any bookmaker charge customer a fee if a deposit or withdrawal fails for any reason.

Alternatives to MasterCard

Credit CardsThe credit card industry has changed over the last 20 years or so to the point now where there is only one real alternative to MasterCard that offers punters the same ease of access on sports betting sites and that is a Visa card.

So similar and widespread are Visa and Mastercards that many betting sites simply lump both together under the umbrella term Credit Cards and the general rule of thumb is that if a site accepts payment from one of these cards (which almost all do, and those that don’t aren’t really important) then it will also accept payments from the other.

Making payments by Visa is conducted in exactly the same way as a MasterCard, only on some sites you may be asked whether your card is a Visa or MasterCard before you complete a transaction.

American Express is a slightly different credit card and this operates under different financial rules to Visa and MasterCard, as such it isn’t as widely accepted across sports betting sites as the two others. If you wish to fund an account using American Express, you should check first that the site offers this form of payment.

About MasterCard

MasterCard was founded back in 1966 when a group of banks in America came together to form the Interbank Card Association (ICA) with the aim of offering an alternative credit facility option to the BankAmericard which had been founded eight years earlier.

By 1969, ICA had decided to change its name to something catchier and it acquired the Master Charge name and the interlocking circles as a trademark. This was used for ten years until in 1979, Master Charge became MasterCard.

In the 1990’s MasterCard also founded the Maestro debit card program along with Europay and since then it has evolved the number of financial products it offers across the globe. Now the company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and boasts millions of customers around the globe and is one of the foremost names in finance around the globe.
