Champions & Europa League Acca – 4th, 5th, 6th May

There’s a phrase that many punters have used over the years “Go Big or Go Home!” and we have decided to take that challenge this week with an absolute whopper of a fourfold bet that could see you win over £1,100 if the bet is a winner!

What I like about this bet is that I don’t think my selections are all that crazy (as you will see from my rationale for each of the games below) and I actually feel that this bet stands as good a chance as some of the much shorter odds fourfolds I have made over the course of the season.

This week we have the second legs of the semifinals of both the Champions League and Europa League to look forward to starting on Tuesday night when Manchester City, who hold a 2-1 advantage from the first leg in France will face Paris St Germain at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

Then on Wednesday night, Chelsea will welcome Real Madrid to Stamford Bridge knowing that any victory or a 0-0 draw will be enough to put them through into the final thanks to their 1-1 draw with the Spanish side in Spain last week. Real though will welcome back Sergio Ramos to bolster their defence as they seek to reach yet another Champions League final.

On Thursday, the attention switches to the Europa League with Arsenal facing Villarreal 2-1 down from the first leg in Spain and tasked with inflicting the first defeat in the Spaniards in the competition this season if the Gunners want to progress to their second final in three years.

Then in the other semifinal, Manchester United have a big four-goal lead to defend in Rome as they take on AS Roma in what should be a relatively comfortable second leg for the English side.

Let’s take a look at the tips I have put together for this week’s set of games.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 4th May

Manchester City (2) v (1) Paris St Germain – Draw

City are desperate to reach their first ever Champions League final and they hold the advantage after a superb win in Paris in the first leg. PSG fans will be concerned with the news that Mbappe may miss this game through injury and if he is absent then I think City’s chances of progressing increase hugely. Even so, City are the favourites here, but PSG have won on their last two visits to Manchester (both against United), so City need to be wary of what the French side can do, especially when you consider they have beaten Bayern Munich and Barcelona on the road in prior rounds. This will be a close call for City but they will snatch the draw they need to go through.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 5th May

Chelsea (1) v (1) Real Madrid – Draw

This tie is very delicately poised and I think that while Chelsea will feel they hold the advantage from the first leg with that away goal and the draw, this is still a 50/50 tie in terms of who goes through. The first leg was very tight and though Chelsea had the best chances on the night, Real never looked out of it. The Spaniards will be strengthened by the potential return of a number of key players through injury and that will really give them a boost. Chelsea though are very strong at home and it is a tough one to call. I can see extra time and maybe penalties being needed to decide the winner here. Hence I am going for the draw.

Bet Analysis: Thursday 6th May

Arsenal (1) v (2) Villarreal – Away Win

I have to admit that I do not share the bookies confidence that Arsenal are the big favourites heading into this game. The Gunners home record this season is not great, they have not shown any degree of consistency and I felt that Villarreal were deserving winners of the first leg in Spain. The Spanish side have played 13 games in the Europa League this season and have won twelve and drawn the other one. They are going well in La Liga and I think offer Arsenal a very stern test. Add to that the Gunners have not won either of their last two home ties in this competition and I think this adds up to a difficult night for Arsenal and I have backed Villarreal to snatch the win here.

AS Roma (2) v (6) Manchester United – Away Win

AS Roma come into this game not just four goals behind, but also without a win in their last five games and taking on a team who have actually been far better away from home this season than they have at Old Trafford. That makes grim reading for Roma fans hoping for another miracle home performance to get them through into the final. I don’t think United will have been unduly worried by how Roma played last week especially in that second half and I think the pace and intelligence United have on the counter attack will mean that they can get plenty of chances as the Italians push forward. As such, I am expecting another comfortable night for United and a win to put them comfortably in the final.
