Champions & Europa League Acca Tip – 27th-29th April

The past weekend’s results didn’t get off to the best of starts when Liverpool conceded a 94th minute equaliser against Newcastle, which meant that my rather impressive Chelsea win away to West Ham pick didn’t really matter. To say that is a little frustrating with the luck I’ve had with last minute goals over the season, is understating it a bit!

Anyway, I am hoping that I have a bit more luck with this week’s midweek selection of games, which are all the first leg of the semifinals in both the Champions League and Europa League. The games run from Tuesday to Thursday, so there’s an extra day to wait for the final result, but it could be an exciting wait if the first two results come in

We’ve got plenty of British interest in these games too with Manchester City and Chelsea taking part in the Champions League semifinals, while Manchester United and Arsenal are in the semifinals of the Europa League. Could we see another European Final double header as we had back in 2018 when Liverpool and Tottenham contested the Champions League final and Arsenal and Chelsea battled it out in the Europa League final?

I’m not too sure of that to be honest, as you’ll see from my tips, but I am confident we will see at least one British team in each of the two finals, which will be played at the end of May.

Anyway, here are my tips for this weeks midweek games across the two competitions in Europe.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 27th April

Real Madrid v Chelsea – Home Win

After knocking out Liverpool in the last round, Real Madrid now face more English opposition in Chelsea. Chelsea came through against FC Porto in a tight affair at Stamford Bridge and they will have to step up their performance a great deal against the Spanish side. I was very impressed with how Real played against Liverpool in the home leg and I can see Zidane’s side adopting a similar approach against Chelsea which I think will serve them well. Like Liverpool, I do feel Chelsea will score a goal, but I still think Real will take the lead with them into the second leg.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 28th April

Paris St Germain v Manchester City – Home Win

This game was the one that gave me the most to consider this week. I don’t like backing against Manchester City at any time as they always seem to get the job done under Pep Guardiola. I also feel City are a team good enough to go and win in Paris, as Manchester United have done twice. But I think PSG looked really fired up to go one better than they did last season and that forward line they possess, at home, is just very scary. I almost went for the draw here but on deeper reflection I think PSG will win the game, but City will score an away goal that will mean the second leg is very delicately poised.

Bet Analysis: Thursday 29th April

Manchester United v AS Roma – Home Win

I remember these two teams playing in the Champions League and Manchester United winning the home leg 7-1. I can’t see that scoreline happening again at Old Trafford on Thursday as this is a Roma side who have been excellent on the road in the Europa League this season, especially in the knockout phase. Indeed, of the two legs, I think this will probably be the trickiest for United as their home form isn’t anywhere near as strong as their away in this competition. That said, United are on a good run of winning games and they’ll want to continue that habit and I think they will narrowly win this game to take a small lead into the second leg in Rome.

Villarreal v Arsenal – Home Win

Villarreal have had a superb campaign in the Europa League and I think they are deserving of being favourites in this first leg game. Arsenal’s superb win away to Slavia Prague was a real surprise, given how Rangers and Leicester had struggled against the Czech’s as had Arsenal in the first leg.  The Gunners best performances in this competition have tended to come on the road with that win in the Czech Republic and another against Olympiakos earlier on in the competition. However, I do think Villarreal are a class above those two sides and no side out of the top four in La Liga has lost as few games as them this season. This will be a tough one for Arsenal and I think they’ll have a chance in the home leg, but I am taking the Spaniards to take a narrow lead with them to London.
