Champions League Acca – Tue 6th & Wed 7th April

After a relatively short break away for international games and whatnot, the Champions League returns over the next two weeks as we play both legs of the four quarterfinal ties. A place in Istanbul for the final awaits two teams and although we have seen some big names eliminated, Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus to name but three, there are still plenty of top quality sides left in the tournament.

The Premier League is well represented in the games with three teams in the quarterfinals. Manchester City are probably the team most feel will be the one to beat in this tournament from the EPL and they start on Tuesday night against a Dortmund side whose form in the Champions League has been better than their league form.

Also on Tuesday, Liverpool will travel to Madrid to take on Real Madrid, the team that beat them in the 2018 Champions League final in somewhat controversial circumstances. Madrid have been hit by injuries to a number of key players, including Sergio Ramos, while Liverpool will once again likely have a makeshift back line in place for this game which promises to be very interesting.

Then on Wednesday night we have Chelsea taking on FC Porto in Portugal on the back of a 5-2 home thrashing at the hands of West Brom, albeit against a Chelsea side that played most of the game with 10-men after Thiago Silva’s sending off. We also have a repeat of last year’s final, which Bayern Munich won 1-0 as they lock horns once again with a PSG side who also come into this game on the back of a 1-0 home loss to Lille.

There are lots of subplots and twists and turns sure to happen across the two legs, which will be played just a week apart and it is going to be interesting to see who reaches the semifinals. Let’s now see the tips we have picked for each of the games.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 6th April

Man City v Borussia Dortmund – Home Win

For me this is the Nap of the night. City have been in superb form and they despatched Leicester in clinical fashion at the weekend as they have most teams in recent times. Dortmund’s league form in the Bundesliga is really poor and they have won just one of their last five games. Even with their fearsome attack, I can’t see Dortmund getting anything here. They may score a goal, but I am expecting City to take a comfortable two or even three goal lead into the second leg next week.

Real Madrid v Liverpool – Home Win

I have to admit, this game has caused me a few problems. I can see a scenario easily where Liverpool win this. Their best form of late has been on the road and in the Champions League, they owe Real Madrid plenty from that Final defeat a few years back and they looked much more like themselves beating Arsenal 3-0. Real are not the force they were but I do feel that this Liverpool defence is not really of the Champions League standard. I can see goals in this one but I think Real will just probably edge this to take a slender lead into the 2nd leg. But  I won’t be surprised if the result goes the other way.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 7th April

Bayern Munich v Paris St Germain – Home Win

A repeat of last year’s final should be an intriguing game. PSG were superb in despatching Barcelona in the last round, while Bayern came through easily against Lazio. PSG’s form is not as good as Bayern’s at the moment, but the German side have lost Robert Lewandowski and his absence in attack really does dent their hopes. I still feel the German side win this game, but I am very confident it will be just by a single goal, which means the second leg in Paris next week should be a cracker.

FC Porto v Chelsea – Away Win

FC Porto surprised many people, myself included, in eliminating Juventus from the tournament in the last round and they won’t be pushovers for a Chelsea side who were excellent in beating Atletico Madrid home and away to reach this stage. Porto have looked a dangerous side in the counter attack and they showed against Juve that they can score at home and away. Chelsea also come into this game on the back of Tuchel’s first defeat as manager – a 5-2 home thrashing by lowly West Brom, although Chelsea were down to 10-men early on due to Thiago Silva’s sending off. The English side won’t make such a naive mistake again here and I think they will just edge this, winning by a 1-0 or 2-1 scoreline.
