Champions League Acca: Wed 12 – Sat 15 August

It wasn’t the biggest acca win in history, but last week we landed a nice little fourfold accumulator on the Champions League games in the Round of 16. As I predicted four home wins were the outcome, but I was pleased that I also noted that Juventus could come unstuck against Lyon despite winning, which was how things panned out.

The other games too went pretty much as I had expected and for once, we didn’t have any last minute goals that turned a winning bet into a losing one! So this means that with a win under my belt, I am looking forward to this week’s quarterfinal ties in the Champions League, even though they are spread out across four nights from Wednesday through to Saturday evening in Portugal.

First up we have the four teams who had already qualified for the quarterfinals ahead of last week’s games with Atalanta v Paris St Germain and then Atletico Madrid v Red Bull Leipzig. This is followed by a cracker as Barcelona take on Bayern Munich and then the action is rounded off with Manchester City taking on Lyon.

Let’s take a look at the results we have tipped for all four games for this weeks acca and lets hope we can build on last weeks success!

Bet Analysis: Wed 12th August

Atalanta v Paris St Germain – Paris St Germain Win

There is no doubt that Atalanta have been the surprise package in the Champions League this season. The Italian side looked dead and buried after three games, but a stunning resurgence to form saw them qualify behind Manchester City and then knockout Valencia 8-4 on aggregate to reach the quarterfinals. They face a Paris side who were awarded by default the Ligue One title but who have not played much competitive football since. However, the quality that they possess in the likes of Mbappe and Neymar should be more than enough for them to take the win here against an exciting Atalanta side. The main issue will be how the PSG defence can cope with Atalanta’s attack and if they can put a lid on their efforts, I think Paris St Germain will comfortably progress.

Red Bull Leipzig v Atletico Madrid – Atletico Madrid Win

Both these teams knocked out English opponents to reach this stage, Red Bull beating Spurs comfortably, while Atletico staged an extra time fightback to snatch a win over Liverpool to eliminate the holders. Of the two, Atletico have been in the better form of late but in general both sides form has been pretty decent since the restart. Red Bull do lack experience of reaching the latter stages of this competition and I think that could be a problem for them against a side as experienced as Diego Simeone’s team who always seem to be able to find a way to win against whatever opponents they play and I can see them doing precisely that here, although I do think Red Bull will run them close.

Bet Analysis: Fri 14th August

Barcelona v Bayern Munich – Draw

Both these teams came through their Round of 16 second leg ties well last weekend. Bayern comfortably despatching Chelsea 4-1 and 7-1 on aggregate, while Barcelona earned a 3-1 win (and 4-2 aggregate win) over Napoli with victory at the Nou Camp. That sets up an intriguing quarterfinal tie that would have been a very worthy final. Bayern are the form team of the two although Barcelona’s form is not particularly bad, it is just Bayern have been on an incredible run of form of late and have looked untouchable in recent times. That is not to say I expect them to have all their own way here. Barcelona have Messi and Suarez and they can cause any teams problems. As such, while I expect Bayern to go through, I do think they may need extra time in order to do so, hence I am backing the draw here.

Bet Analysis: Sat 15th August

Manchester City v Lyon – Manchester City Win

This could have been Real Madrid v Juventus in this tie, but instead, it is the newer money teams in the Champions League that made it through. Man City beat Real Madrid home and away to emphasise their rightful place as favourites in this year’s competition but they will face a Lyon side who fear nobody after a fine away goals win over Juventus, as I said I suspected they may achieve last week. Even so, I still think City are the stronger of the two teams and while one leg I think favours Lyon a little, I still expect City to come away with the win to move into the semifinals.
