Champions League Accumulator Tip – Tue 27th & Wed 28th October

We were so close last week to landing a winner in the Champions League! Three out of the four tips we made were bang on the money with Chelsea drawing, Liverpool winning and Atalanta also landing the win. The only one to let us down was Dortmund to earn a draw in Lazio, which is slightly frustrating to say the least.

Even more so when you consider we hit three out of four in the Europa League too on Thursday night, which goes to show that the good results of the past couple of weeks haven’t been a fluke. I can feel a win is around the corner and hopefully, if we have not already landed one at the weekend, then this set of Champions League tips will do the trick.

We saw some fine performances in Europe last week. Man Utd were superb in deservedly beating Paris St Germain in Paris, while Liverpool earned a battling 1-0 win away to Ajax and the shock result saw a Covid-hit Shakhtar Donetsk team earn a 3-2 win away to Real Madrid. I did purposely avoid that Real game last week as I had a funny feeling that they would under-perform with the game with Barcelona coming up at the weekend.

Anyway, I have gone through the fixtures for Tuesday and Wednesday night in the Champions League and come up with the following tips. Let’s hope we can go just one better than last week and land that elusive win!

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 27th October

Atalanta v Ajax – Home Win

A couple of years back, this game would have been a massive away win banker given the strength of the two teams. However, now, with Ajax having sold a larger number of their ‘golden generation’ of players from a couple of years ago and Atalanta fast emerging as one of the most exciting young teams in Europe, let alone Serie A, the tables have turned somewhat. Ajax lost at home to Liverpool on the opening night while Atalanta strolled to a 3-0 win in Denmark against Midtjylland and on home soil, I fancy the Bergamo-based side to get the better of their Dutch counterparts here. Atalanta are a team to watch in this competition this year and it is going to be hugely interesting to see how they perform against Liverpool after this game. I expect them to go into those fixtures on the back of another win here.

Borussia Monchengladbach v Real Madrid – Draw

It’s not often Zinedine Zidane gets it completely wrong, but he did last week at home to Shakhtar. With the El Classico coming up at the weekend against Barcelona, Zidane rested a number of key stars for their opening Champions League game, but were made to pay the price with Shakhtar earning a 3-2 win. With Inter and tonight’s opponent Borussia Monchengladbach in the group, this game now takes on huge importance for Real and another defeat, with two games to come against Inter, would leave them in a precarious position. I can’t see Real losing this one too but their form is such that a win isn’t likely either, especially in Germany where their record is poor. As such, I think a draw is a solid option here against a decent Borussia side.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 28th October

Juventus v Barcelona – Home Win

Will Cristiano Ronaldo be recovered enough from his Covid-19 infection to play against Lionel Messi once again in what is undoubtedly the biggest game of the night? If he isn’t then his absence could be a huge blow for Juventus, who even without the Portuguese legends earned a 2-0 win against Dynamo Kyiv last week. Barcelona put five past Hungarian side Ferencvaros but they have the Classico in between that game and this. For me, Barcelona are just not the side they were a few years ago while I think Juventus, even without Ronaldo, are a much more measured and complete all-round team and as such, I am backing the Italians to land the victory here.

Manchester United v Red Bull Leipzig – Home Win

I have to say that United were deserving winners in Paris last week, even though that result cost me around £200! Had Paris snatched a win it would have been undeserved and I think United will take real heart from that. Like a number of teams this season, Leipzig are suffering from the loss of a number of players in the summer, Timo Werner the most impactful and I don’t quite see this team as such a threat as the team that put Spurs to the sword in this competition last season. On home soil, I think United should have enough quality to earn a second win which would put them in a very strong position in what is a very tricky group.
