Champions League Matchday 3 Acca – 4th,5th October

No luck at the weekend as we saw some unusual results, with Newcastle probably being one of the most impressive performers of the weekend alongside Arsenal as both registered excellent wins over Fulham and Tottenham respectively.

Liverpool’s struggled continued as they were held 3-3 by Brighton at Anfield in Roberto Di Zerbi’s first game in charge since Graham Potter left for Chelsea, speaking of whom Potter landed his first win as a Chelsea boss thanks to a late win over Crystal Palace.

With games taking place on Sunday this week too, we’ve switched our focus already to the midweek action taking place this week as we have a very busy period running from October into early November which will see five EPL games and Four Champions League/Europa League/Europa Conference League Matchdays also take place.

So the tips are going to be coming thick and fast over the coming month or so in the lead up to the World Cup Finals starting, so do keep checking back for the latest batch of tips.

This week in the Champions League we have some key games, notably in Group A where Liverpool will face Rangers at Anfield and table-toppers Napoli will head to the Netherlands to take on Ajax in Amsterdam.

Other big games this week include Inter Milan hosting Barcelona, Benfica taking on Paris St Germain, Chelsea hosting AC Milan and Real Madrid taking on Shakhtar Donetsk.

There’s also key games coming up for the remaining British teams not mentioned above including Celtic, Tottenham and Manchester City.

So let’s now take a look at the games we have put together for our Matchday 3 accumulator in the Champions League this week.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 4th October

Eintracht Frankfurt v Tottenham Hotspurs – Home Win

Tottenham were put to the sword by Arsenal at the weekend and that defeat will have been a shot across the bows for them in the Premier League where Spurs have often come through in games where they haven’t dominated. They now face another tough Champions League away day in Frankfurt against an Eintracht side who have won all of their last four, including a fine away win over Marseille in matchday two. Spurs followed up their won over the French side with a defeat at Sporting Lisbon and I think Frankfurt’s home form is such that Spurs can expect a tough time of things here too. I almost backed them for the draw but my gut instinct is that the German side will earn a narrow victory.

Inter Milan v Barcelona – Away Win

Barcelona have a superb historical record against Inter Milan, in 11 games between the two the Catalan giants have won seven, drawn three and lost just the once. They are also coming into this game in good form, whereas Inter Milan have lost seven of the 15 games that they have played this season in all competitions. That is a real worry for the Nerazzurri as they face a Barcelona team bang in form. The Catalan’s only defeat this season has been away to Bayern Munich and Xavi has the team playing some great football once again. They may lack experience but certainly not talent and I make them the favourites to land the win in this game between two European giants.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 5th October

Red Bull Leipzig v Celtic – Home Win

Celtic picked up a creditable point away to Shakhtar Donetsk in their last game following their defeat to Real in their opener, while Leipzig were beaten by Real after a shock defeat to Donetsk in their opener. So it is very much a case of will the real Red Bull Leipzig stand up please? Is it the team that has beaten Dortmund 3-0 and won 4-0 at the weekend, or the team that has been underperforming for a couple of seasons in Europe? If Leipzig don’t play well, Celtic could spring a surprise here, but my gut feeling is that the German side may just be a little too strong for them here and will just about get the job done.

Sevilla v Borussia Dortmund – Draw

There’s some recent history between these two teams and the away team has tended to do better in the four games between them. In addition to two draws, Sevilla have won in Dortmund in 2010 and Dortmund landed an amazing 3-2 win in Seville in February 2021 which laid the foundation for them to progress into the quarterfinals of the Champions League last season. The four games between them have produced 14 goals too, which means that historically at least, we should see some goalmouth action. Both sides have been a little below par so far this season, especially domestically and Sevilla have struggled in Europe too. However, I can’t quite see Dortmund doing quite enough to win the game, so I feel a draw is probably the best option available to back here.
