EPL Valentine Weekend Acca – 12th & 13th February

It feels good to have the Premier League back properly now after the midweek break and African Cup of Nations and a number of FA Cup weekends, but it would have been nice to have landed an Acca win in midweek, but we didn’t.

Still, I’m not too worried. As I said, I’ve already pretty much covered my bets for the remainder of the season with the wins I have had from the first half of the year, so anything I can land between now and the end of the season will just mean more profit.

That’s not to say that I don’t want to see more profit, of course I do, but I also feel the pressure is off a little.

Still, I don’t like handing cash to the bookies each week, so I’ll be doing my best to claim some back, starting with this week’s accumulator bet for the Premier League games taking place this weekend.

With Chelsea still involved in the World Club Cup, it means we have nine games as we had in midweek, but there are some interesting matches to consider and given the games, I may take a slightly more cautious approach this week.

That’s because there are quite a few, what I’d call 33.3% games, where I feel a win for either team, or a draw, are all about as likely as each other, which can make picking the right result tricky.

Especially so when you see the likes of Norwich and Newcastle picking up their form and some of the better positioned sides struggling a little.

Anyway, here’s my set of tips for this weekend’s action.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 12th February

Manchester United v Southampton – Home Win

It’s fair to say Manchester United under Ralph Rangnick don’t really show any signs of being any different to the team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. A midweek draw away to bottom club Burnley cost United their spot in the top four and was just another performance that was littered with inconsistency. Southampton in contrast earned a superb win away to Tottenham and they will provide a stern test for United here. I can’t see any repeat of the 9-0 win for the home side that they landed last season but their record against Southampton is pretty good and even in poor form, they are picking up wins at Old Trafford and I think will do so here too.

Watford v Brighton – Away Win

I do feel Watford are in very real danger now and in truth, I think they have brought it upon themselves. You cannot build a successful and consistent team if you change managers every few months because the last manager hasn’t won enough games. I think Brighton have a squad that is probably no better than Watford’s on paper, but I think in terms of the teams, they are miles apart as Brighton have kept faith in Graham Potter and allowed him time to develop the team. The result is a team that have lost just four games this season and who I think will pick up another three points here.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 13th February

Newcastle Utd v Aston Villa – Home Win

Both my picks on Sunday are good examples of these 33% games and the first is the game at St James’ Park as Newcastle match up against Aston Villa. The Toon Army’s form has improved a great deal of late, unbeaten in their last four EPL games, winning the last two and with new signings making a major impact already, the club is moving forward now under Eddie Howe. Aston Villa too are making strides under Steven Gerrard and despite some superb signings themselves in the window, the consistency just isn’t quite there yet and I feel issues in the centre of defence will cost them here as I am backing Newcastle to edge the win.

Leicester v West Ham – Draw

What do you make of Leicester this season? I mean they can beat Man City in the Charity Shield, Man Utd and Liverpool at home, but they lie 12th in the table and are out of all cup competitions. Something just isn’t quite right with the balance of the team and I think they are being found out at times. West Ham are a team that could make them pay and the Hammers have a good record against the Foxes in recent times, including a 4-1 win over them earlier this season, but this time around I think Leicester will do just enough to claim a point from the game.
