Given that things have become clearer in the Champions League after the matchday 5 games last night and the night before, we are now going to see a similar outcome for the Europa League matchday 5 games, which take place tonight.
All four of the British teams remaining in the tournament have key games. West Ham need just a point from their trip to Austria to take on Rapid Vienna to ensure that they progress to the next round, but Leicester City, Rangers and Celtic all need to pick up wins to give themselves any chance of following the Hammers.
There’s also some key games in other groups too with the game between AS Monaco and Real Sociedad likely to be a key one in that group, while the Galatasaray v Marseille and Lokomotiv Moscow v Lazio games will also have a key role to play in what happens in that group too.
For some other teams, it will just be a case of them earning the win, or having the result in the other game going their way, to ensure that they progress, but with things being very tight in a number of groups, it may well be the case that many teams have a huge amount to play for when we reach Matchday 6 in a couple of weeks.
For me, the best teams in the tournament this year have looked to be Lyon, West Ham, Sociedad, Monaco and Eintracht Frankfurt, however with a host of teams dropping into the competition after Christmas, it is hard to make a convincing case for any of these teams to win the tournament.
Anyway, here’s my tips for four key games taking place tonight.
