Europa League Accumulator – Thu 9th December

Last time out in the Champions League we secured a very nice win of £200+ and a day later, we were one goal away from a £500+ win in the Europa League, so I am looking forward to this final set of Group Stage games in the competition.

So far this season, I reckon I have made around £280 worth of bets but I have brought in well over £400 in profit and so I have to be very happy with that and I think another decent win will ensure that we finish the season in profit. So that’s my aim here!

As with the Champions League, there are some games to avoid this week. Notably those ones where teams have nothing to play for and could play a majorly weakened team. If you are sure you know a team will do this, then you can sometimes go for the longer odds win, but it is a risk, which is why I try to stay focused on games that have something to play for.

To be fair, there are more of those this week in the Europa League than in the Champions League and some of those games include big teams such as Leicester City, Napoli, Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, Galatasaray and more so you can bet that these are going to be part of the focus for my selections this week.

Over the years, the Europa League has been pretty kind to me with these tips, and I feel after last time, it perhaps owes me one this season. So with that in mind, here’s my tips for Thursday’s games.

Bet Analysis: Thursday 9th December

Napoli v Leicester City – Home Win

Literally anything can happen in Group B it is so tight. All four teams can win the group, all four teams can finish in any position bar Leicester who will finish no lower than third in the group. However, if the Foxes are to progress in this competition they need at least a draw here and against Napoli at the Italians home, that is a big ask. The Italians have lost a couple of games of late and they do seem to be a little less strong defensively than some Napoli sides of recent years, which may give Leicester a chance, but the Foxes poor form means that I can’t really consider them here and my gut feeling is that Napoli will emerge with the win and top the group.

Real Sociedad v PSV Eindhoven – Draw

This game is an important one because PSV Eindhoven need to either draw or win the game to remain in the Europa League, however if they lose to Sociedad then they will drop into the Europa Conference League. Sociedad have to win as they are a couple of points behind PSV as things stand and they also have a worse goal difference. The Spaniards have won just once in the group awat to Sturm Graz and they have found winning at home tough of late. In contrast PSV are in pretty decent form and did earn a draw in Monaco. I think the Dutch side will do likewise here and with it claim a place in the next round.

Braga v Red Star Belgrade – Home Win

Perhaps not two teams that I would ordinarily focus on for my acca tip in the Europa League but this is an intriguing game because if either of these teams slip up, then Midtjylland could leapfrog one or both of them to claim a spot in the next round of the tournament. Belgrade hold top position in the group at the moment, so a point will do them here, but I think Braga are a big favourite given that they have home advantage and their recent form is just that bit better than their Serbian opponents. This is a game where fans will have one ear on the game taking place in Bulgaria, but even so I think Braga will take the win and with it, win the group.

Celtic v Real Betis – Draw

There’s not a lot riding on this game I know, but I think there is pride to play for in the case of Celtic while Real Betis can’t improve their position any as they have a much worse goal difference and head to head record than Leverkusen. As such, I think the Spaniards will probably rest one or two key players for this game, but not too many as they’ll be wary after they scraped a 4-3 win at home to Celtic. That performance should give Celtic hope of something here and I think that while a win is not likely, they should do enough to get a point.
