Europa League Accumulator – Thursday 10th December

Thursday evening sees the final round of Europa League Group Stage fixtures for the season, with plenty of teams still very much involved in a battle to secure a place in the next round of the competition.

Last week’s tips saw two positive results, but the first two games let us down but I am hopeful that with their futures on the line in the competition this week, we will see some very competitive games and hopefully land a very decent win with this selection of tips.

We know that a number of teams are already through into the next round of the competition. AS Roma, Arsenal, Slavia Prague, Bayer Leverkusen, Rangers, Benfica, Granada, PSV Eindhoven, Leicester City, Braga, Lille, AC Milan, Villarreal, Royal Antwerp, Tottenham Hotspurs, Dinamo Zagreb, Hoffenheim and Red Star Belgrade are already confirmed as through.

These 18 teams will be joined by six third-placed finishers from the Champions League Group Stages plus a further eight teams from the results of the games in the Europa League this week to play in the Europa League Round of 32 when the competition resumes next year.

Where possible, I’ve tried to focus on these games where teams will be going for the win or draw they need to progress, as opposed to games which have little to nothing for the teams competing to play for, chiefly because I suspect managers will rest players for these games and predicting the results for them can be a lottery.

As such, we may have a slightly more unusual flavour to this weeks set of tips but let’s hope that they can still provide us with some entertainment and hopefully a winner!

Here’s my tips for this week’s Europa League games.

Bet Analysis: Thursday 10th December

Young Boys v CFR Cluj – Home Win

With AS Roma well clear at the top of Group A, it comes down to an all-or-nothing matchup between Young Boys from Switzerland and Romania’s CFR Cluj for the second placed spot in the group. Cluj have only won their opening game in the group, drawing twice more and losing two other games while Young Boys two defeats have both come against group leaders AS Roma. The teams drew 1-1 when they met on Matchday 2 a while back but it was Young Boys that enjoyed the better possession, more shots and more shots on target in that game. Cluj do have some very fine technical players but I just feel that Young Boys are hard to beat on home soil and they should get the job done here to qualify for the Round of 32.

Maccabi Tel Aviv v Sivasspor – Home Win

Second place Maccabi Tel Aviv face third placed Sivasspor from Turkey in Group I, knowing that a win or draw will be enough to put them into the next phase of the tournament. However, if Sivasspor can win the game, they will finish a point above their opponents and steal second spot behind Villarreal for themselves. This has been a very tight group in the main with Villarreal the expected class act, however Maccabi did earn a crucial 2-1 win over these opponents in Turkey on Matchday 2 when Sivasspor went down to 10 men after 67 minutes, allowing the Israeli side to score two quick fire goals shortly after to claim the win. I think they will earn another victory here too.

Slovan Liberec v Red Star Belgrade – Away Win

This is the one game in my selection where there is nothing to play for for either team. Liberec are four points behind Red Star in Group K so even a win here will not be enough for them to close the gap, while Red Star cannot finish any better than second in the group based on their head to head performance against leaders Hoffenheim. However, at 6/4 to win the game, I felt Red Star Belgrade were too good a choice to turn down, especially considering that they thrashed these opponents 5-1 on home soil on Matchday 2. Even if this is a game to nothing for both sides, I still think Belgrade are the much stronger of the two teams.

Wolfsberger AC v Feyenoord – Home Win

This Group K clash pits the second placed Wolfsberg against third placed Feyenoord for a place in the next round. The Austrian side performed well in this competition last season and have done so once again, although they are four points behind the group winners Dinamo Zagreb. They hold a two point lead over Feyenoord who have just five points from their five games so far, winning just one of those matches. Wolfsberg thumped Feyenoord 4-1 in Holland on Matchday 2 of the competition with striker Michael Liendl scoring a hattrick (including two penalties). I don’t think it will be quite so easy this time around but I am backing this dangerous Austrian side to take the win here.
