FA Cup 4th Round Acca – 23rd & 24th January 2021

We weren’t too far off things in midweek, which is a little frustrating as that would have been a lovely little return. However, it does make me a bit more confident about this weekend’s FA Cup Fourth Round ties that will be the basis of this weekend’s acca.

Somewhat oddly, there are just three all-Premier League games this weekend. Fulham v Burnley, Southampton v Arsenal and the big game on Sunday, Manchester United v Liverpool. The rest are a mix of games between Premier League and lower league sides, or just all lower league clashes.

I feel that while the odds are not going to be too great on a number of those games, I do feel that picking a winner in some of them should, in theory at least, be easier. So I am quietly confident that we are going to have a good week. Luck permitting!

I am going to include the Man Utd v Liverpool clash on Sunday even though I think it will be a markedly different game from the terrible game last Sunday. I think both managers may play different teams for this game, plus when two teams clash twice just a few days apart, that second game never really goes as the first one did.

That does make things a little trickier with that clash but even so, it is such a big game that it would be churlish to leave it out of this week’s selection of matches. I’ve also gone with the Southampton v Arsenal game too as I think that has the potential to be one of the best games of the weekend.

Let’s hope that this fourfold bet lands us that elusive winner this week!

Bet Analysis: Saturday 23rd January

Southampton v Arsenal -Away Win

After beating Shrewsbury Town 2-0 on Monday, the Saints now face an Arsenal side in good form and who come into this game on the back of a good win over Newcastle in midweek. After winning the cup last season, Mikel Arteta is not likely to make too many changes to that team I feel especially against a Southampton side that sit well above them in the league this season. The Saints are a tough side to beat at St Mary’s, but something tells me that Arteta has his eyes on this trophy to save Arsenal’s season and I am backing them to snatch a win here.

Sheffield United v Plymouth – Home Win

Sheffield United have endured a miserable season in the EPL so far, only registering their first win a little while ago.  However after coming through away to League One Bristol Rovers in the last round on the road, I feel they should also get the job done against a Plymouth side that are of a similar ability. There’s been a few examples of a team struggling in the EPL but having a good cup run and I think that will happen for the Blades here. This should be a comfortable win for them.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 24th January

Brentford v Leicester City – Draw

I was very impressed with Brentford’s Carabao Cup run to the semifinals where they narrowly lost to Spurs and I think if Leicester, as Brendan Rodgers tends to do, rest a number of key first teamers here this game has the potential to get very tricky. Brentford have beaten a number of EPL sides already this season and a below strength Leicester is going to find it tricky in this one. That said, the Foxes are in such good form that it is hard to see them losing here. As such, I feel this is a game that may require extra time to perhaps decide the winner, with some strong Foxes substitutions turning the game their way in that extra period. But for the full time result, I feel a draw is a good option.

Manchester United v Liverpool – Home Win

Wasn’t last week’s game between these two a bit of a dirge? Liverpool dominated possession, but United had the best two chances in the game, which has been the story for Liverpool in their last four EPL matches to tell the truth. Jurgen Klopp does have a real problem on his hands with the lack of goals the Reds are scoring. I also feel both sides will name pretty strong teams for this game, given their rivalry, which will I feel make it more competitive. That said, United are in the much better form at the minute of the two and with this being on home turf, I feel they will have just enough to claim the win.
