FA Cup & EPL Accumulator – 16th & 17th April

It was another frustrating weekend for me last week as once again three out of my four tips came in bang on the money, but Manchester United let me down with a miserable performance against Everton.

Still, at least I continue to be in good form having hit a winner the other week and had a couple of close calls in the meantime too.

This weekend we have a mix of games. There are the two FA Cup Semi Finals from Wembley with Liverpool and Manchester City battling it out once again on the Saturday, and then this is followed by Londoners Chelsea and Crystal Palace facing each other on the Sunday.

Remember, there’s no replays in the FA Cup now, with ties decided by extra time and penalties on the day if required.

Then alongside these games we have a set of games to take in from the Premier League with all the bottom three teams in action, as well as a number of teams that are chasing the fourth spot in the table that will guarantee them a place in next season’s Champions League.

So you won’t be too surprised to hear that I have gone through the fixtures this weekend and come up with a mix of games from both the FA Cup and the Premier League in order to complete this week’s acca.

Do check back in midweek next week too as with a fair few EPL games from Tuesday to Thursday, I am going to squeeze another round of tips in for you!

But before that, here’s my tips for the weekend.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 16th April

Watford v Brentford – Away Win

Watford’s descent back into the Championship continues with two defeats in a row and they now face a Brentford side that has won four of its last five games and that has seen the ‘risky’ signing of Christian Eriksen turn into a masterstroke. The Danish ace has given the Bees a huge improvement in quality in midfield and that has been a key factor in their resurgence in form. So much so that I strongly fancy Brentford not just to win this game, but to win it very comfortably. I really don’t like how the Watford owners treat their managers, so I won’t lose any sleep if they go down, but I do think the fans deserve better football than they have had this season.

Liverpool v Manchester City – Liverpool Win

In two games between these teams this season, we have seen why they are the two best teams in the world at the moment. Four goals apiece, two 2-2 draws and with just one point between them at the top of the table, both in the Champions League semi finals and both harbouring hopes of an FA Cup win (and Liverpool already claiming the Carabao Cup), it could be a great season for either team. So why have I not gone for the draw here? Well, in midweek, Liverpool were able to rest key players in their game with Benfica. Man City were not and also  City lost Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne to injuries in that game. Both are doubts for this game and that would be a huge blow. As the game wears on, I think fatigue will impact City more than Liverpool and that may just give Liverpool the edge. But only just.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 17th April

Newcastle United v Leicester City – Home Win

When did Newcastle last lose a home game in the Premier League? You’d think it was pretty recently wouldn’t you? Well, in fact, it was back in December and it was Manchester City that beat them that day. Since then, the Toon Army have not lost a home game and that has played a key part in their rise from the drop zone and to relative safety. Leicester City are mid-table and have a tough game in midweek against PSV to play ahead of this game. The Foxes have been conceding a lot of goals this season, many from set pieces and I think that is something Newcastle can capitalise on here. The Foxes away form also isn’t great and considering all these factors, I am backing Newcastle to land the win here.

Chelsea v Crystal Palace – Draw

The second FA Cup semifinal is another intriguing game and it is a tough one for Chelsea to bounce back from after their heroics in Madrid came up short. The emotional and physical energy expended in that game will have been huge for Chelsea and I think Thomas Tuchel may well play a few players who are on the fringes of his team here. That I think gives Palace a chance to at least get a result to force extra time. Patrick Vieira’s team are in good form too and as such, given all these factors, I think this one will go to extra time and possibly even penalties to decide the winner.
