FA Cup Final & EPL Acca – 15th & 16th May

Wow, I don’t know what has happened with the last couple of sets of tips, but I feel like I don’t really know football any more at the moment! It’s certainly been a weird old season when it comes to results. Who’d have had Manchester United down to lose both home games they played this week?

Then there was Manchester City losing to Chelsea last weekend, while Chelsea then went out in midweek and gifted Arsenal a win at Stamford Bridge and Leicester were tonked at home by Newcastle on Friday, and then beat United at Old Trafford. I would have loved to have bundled all those results together in a single acca as I’d be joining Elon Musk and Bill Gates for a beer or two if that was the case.

This weekend, we have a slight change to the usual tips with a trio of games from the Premier League across Saturday and Sunday, as well as the FA Cup Final from Wembley. Chelsea are looking to win their ninth FA Cup Final, but they face a Leicester City side who are looking to end a run of four FA Cup Final defeats in the four finals they have played.

This should be a good one between the teams that currently occupy 3rd and 4th in the Premier League at the moment. It is the first of two matches between the teams as they meet in the Premier League on Tuesday night too.

It’s the penultimate week of what has been a weird old season and in truth, I can’t wait for it to be over and hopefully, we can get back to having fans in the stadium for the new season. Which will be a big plus for teams playing at home.

Here’s my tips for this week.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 15th May

Burnley v Leeds United – Home Win

A Lancashire v Yorkshire clash that will be keenly contested despite the fact that both teams have little to play for. I have been impressed by both these teams this season and Burnley of late have looked very good with striker Chris Wood in notably good form. Leeds are a team who can be brilliant or bad depending on the day, but that tends to be the case with Marcelo Bielsa’s team this season. Burnley for me are tough defensively and I think that may be the foundation behind them earning a narrow win here, most likely with the in-form Wood grabbing the key goal.

Chelsea v Leicester City – Chelsea Win

This year’s FA Cup Final kicks off at 5.15pm at Wembley and it sees Chelsea chasing a ninth FA Cup title, while Leicester are seeking their first having lost all four of the other finals they have played in. The Foxes have already beaten Chelsea this season in the Premier League. but they have never beaten Chelsea in nine FA Cup ties, drawing two and losing seven of the matches played between the teams in this competition. I do think this will be a closely fought game, but even though Chelsea lost to Arsenal in midweek, I can’t see them slipping up here with the experience they have in the team in these key games. As such, I fancy Chelsea to land a 2-1 win in regular time here.

Brighton v West Ham United – Away Win

Liverpool may have leap-frogged West Ham in the table after the Reds win at Old Trafford on Thursday night, but the Hammers are still not out of things as they do have a game in hand on Leicester and Chelsea above them. A win here would move them three points behind Chelsea and still very much in contention for a Champions League spot, or at worst, a Europa League spot. Brighton’s home record this season has been dreadful and so I am expecting West Ham to pick up a valuable three points here with Michail Antonio likely to play a key role.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 16th May

Everton v Sheffield United – Home Win

Given how weird results have been of late, I’ve definitely tried to play things a bit safer this weekend and that means for my final game in this selection, I have gone with Everton taking on the bottom team Sheffield United at home. The Toffees have enjoyed a good season and had their home form matched their away, then they would be much further up the table. Sheffield United are already relegated and playing for nothing but pride, they have lost 28 of their 35 games this season and in truth, this should be a very comfortable win for the Toffees. If not, questions will be asked.
