Midweek Acca Tips: 1st & 2nd October 2019

I’m writing these tips ahead of the weekend’s matches in the Premier League, but the weekend before we were so close to landing a massive £770 accumulator, with only James Maddison’s late, late winner for Leicester depriving us of what would have been a fabulous win.

Still, at least it shows that I am on the money when it comes to the selections I am making and I would like to have a bit of the rub of the green for once with this set of selections from this weeks Champions League Group Stage Matchday 2 matches.

Taking place across Tuesday and Wednesday night, we have four Premier League sides in action with Man City facing Dynamo Zagreb and Spurs facing Bayern Munich on Tuesday, while on Wednesday Liverpool take on Red Bull Salzburg and Chelsea face a tricky trip to Lille in Northern France.

Let’s hope that we can go just the one better with this set of tips for the Champions League and remember to check back in a couple of days for our Europa League tips.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 1st October

Juventus v Bayer Leverkusen  – Home Win

I don’t think any team in Europe has quite the embarrassment of riches that Juventus have in their squad, especially when you consider the likes of Emre Can and Giorgio Chiellini could not even get themselves a place in their Champions League squad. After making a solid start against Atletico Madrid, earning a point on the road, I expect them to put Bayer Leverkusen to the sword on home soil. The German side lost at home to Lokomotive Moscow last time out in one of the shocks of the round and if they can’t beat a team like Lokomotive at home, then the chances of them doing anything against a Juventus side on the road, is almost zero. As such, I am expecting a solid home win for Juventus, probably with a couple of goals for Cristiano Ronaldo thrown in for good measure.

Tottenham v Bayern Munich – Draw

A draw against Olympiakos on the road wasn’t a disaster for Spurs last time out, but it felt like less than they should have got given that they were leading the game 2-0. Bayern were comfortable winners at home to Red Star Belgrade and I am expecting them to approach this game like they did their knockout phase tie with Liverpool last season, when they earned a 0-0 draw at Anfield. That means sitting back and hitting Spurs on the attack. I do see Spurs scoring in this game, unlike Liverpool last year, but that leaky back line for Spurs does worry me and I can see Bayern securing an equaliser to earn a draw which will be a better result for them than the home side.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 2nd October

Lille v Chelsea – Away Win

After losing at home to Valencia in the opening round of games, Chelsea need a big result here otherwise they could find themselves in real trouble in Group H. Lille were also well beaten away to Ajax on the opening day and like Chelsea, they will be desperate for a win to put themselves back in contention in the group. The French side do have some talented players and they are tough to beat at home generally, but I think the return of Callum Hudson Odoi will be a massive boost to Chelsea and given that they are scoring lots of goals, even if Lille do score, I still feel Chelsea have it in them to grab one more to take an important win here.

Zenit St Petersburg v Benfica – Home Win

The Russian side will be delighted with their point on the road to Lyon last time out and they have a chance to improve on that here against a Benfica side that were surprising losers at home to Red Bull Leipzig on the opening round of games. The Portuguese side do tend to blow hot and cold in Europe at times and they can be a tricky team to predict, but I feel heading to more northerly climes to face a tricky team like Zenit, who are packed with talent in midfield and attack in particular, is going to be a tough task for them. I can see both teams finding the net, and I was tempted by the draw here, but I just have an inkling Zenit may snatch the win late on.
