Midweek EPL Acca – 18th & 19th May

It’s the 37th matchday in midweek this week of what has been a strange old season. I do feelAcca Tips a lack of fans, especially for home teams, has made this season something of a nightmare to predict and the odd results kept coming on Saturday this week.

Not only did Leicester upset Chelsea to deservedly land the FA Cup, but we also saw Leeds run out scorching 4-0 away winners over a Burnley side that are usually rock solid defensively and who themselves beat Wolves 4-0 away from home just a couple of weeks back. Then to compound matters, Brighton, who had one of the worst home record in the Premier League, beat West Ham at home!

Like I said last week, it feels like I don’t know the game anymore!

I do think the lack of crowds has really impacted results for some teams. I don’t see the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool losing four or six games at home respectively with their vociferous support behind them. It was great therefore to see a crowd at the FA Cup Final and with home fans allowed in for both Matchday 37 and 38, let’s hope this represents a return to some kind of normality.

So for this set of midweek picks, I am hoping that we can land another profit. We had a fantastic run of profits just a couple of weeks back, but the last couple of sets of tips have been wide of the mark. I don’t want to end the season with a whimper, so I have put together what I feel is a strong set of tips for what isn’t the most appealing set of fixtures, odds-wise at least, in midweek.

With that in mind, I’ve gone for a couple of ‘surprise’ results, that seem to keep happening. Let’s hope this strategy works out!

Here’s my tips for Matchday 37.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 18th May

Southampton v Leeds United – Away Win

After a long run of poor results, Southampton have won their last two home games by a 3-1 scoreline and they are now 13th in the table. Leeds though have also won their last two and have lost just once in their last five games. I was hugely impressed with them against Burnley and I think if they play like that again here, then they have a great chance of picking up a third win in a row. Neither side is great defensively, so I can see goals being scored here but I do feel at the moment Leeds are the team most likely to come out on top.

Chelsea v Leicester City – Home Win

A repeat of Saturday’s FA Cup Final, but this time at Stamford Bridge and this time there is a potential place in next season’s Champions League at stake. With Liverpool closing in on the top four, a defeat for either of these teams here could put them under huge pressure in their final game of the season (assuming the Reds can win their remaining three games). As such, this game arguably is more important, if not as prestigious as Saturday’s FA Cup Final and as such, with home advantage and revenge on their mind, I do expect Chelsea to bounce back with a win here.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 19th May

Everton v Wolves – Draw

I see a few similarities between these two teams. Both are struggling a little for goals at the moment, but are generally strong defensively. I think both miss key men when they are out injured, James Rodriguez for Everton and Raul Jimenez for Wolves. Everton’s worrying home form with eight defeats this season is a big worry here against a well organised Wolves side and I think if Wolves can nick a goal on the break, they could well snatch a point here in what would be a good result for them.

Crystal Palace v Arsenal – Home Win

This is arguably my big call in this set of tips. Palace have lost four of their last five, while Arsenal have lost just one of their last five games. However, I am not convinced that this is Mikel Arteta’s team coming back to something like their best. The Gunners have been so flaky this season it is beyond belief and their wins in recent games were narrow ones against relegation candidates, plus that gift win given to them by Jorginho at Chelsea. Palace are a side I feel who have missed their fans more than most and with them back at Selhurst Park for this London derby, I can see them putting in a fine display here and taking the win.
