Midweek EPL Acca – 19th to 21st April

Well, once again, as I write up this set of tips for the midweek Premier League games coming up from Tuesday to Thursday next week, I stand with my two Saturday tips coming in bang on the money for me and I am now hoping that my two Sunday selections follow suit for a win!

This week we have a mish-mash of midweek Premier League games with six matches taking place between the 19th and 21st of April (Tue to Thu) and so I decided that given we have two massive games in that half-dozen, plus a couple of relegation battles, that this was too good a group of games to miss out on.

The action starts on Tuesday with a massive game at the top of the table as Liverpool face Manchester United at Anfield. The Reds won 5-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the season and United’s fortunes have not increased too much since then.

We’ve also got a cracking London derby game on Wednesday night as Chelsea host Arsenal in a crucial battle between the teams third and fifth in the Premier League. On the same night, we see Everton host Leicester City in what is a vital game for the Toffees at Goodison, while Newcastle face Crystal Palace and table-toppers Manchester City host Brighton at the Etihad.

Then on Thursday we have a crucial relegation battle as Burnley battle for three points against Southampton at Turf Moor. Will sacking Sean Dyche see the home side land the win, or is it, as I feel, a monumentally bad decision by the Burnley board to sack the manager at this stage of the season?

Anyway, there’s so much at stake in so many games this week that I’ve put together this set of tips for a midweek EPL acca.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 19th April

Liverpool v Manchester United – Home Win

Liverpool come into this game on the back of a huge win over Manchester City in the FA Cup Semi Final at the weekend and they know a win here would take them top of the Premier League table by two points, even if it is just for 24-hours. There is nothing that Manchester United would like more than to stop their fierce rivals from going top of the table but after they were thrashed 5-0 by the Reds at Old Trafford earlier in the season, it’s hard to see how United can stop them here. Liverpool have lost just once at home all season, against Inter in the Champions League, and it is hard to see United getting a result like that with the form Liverpool are in. As such, I am backing the home side to land the win here.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 20th April

Everton v Leicester City – Home Win

In general, Everton’s form at home under Frank Lampard has been pretty solid and in truth, it is the reason they are outside the drop zone at the moment. After wins over Newcastle and Man Utd in their last two home games, Everton now face a Leicester side who will be buzzing after their midweek win in Eindhoven over PSV last week. The Foxes league form this season though has been very inconsistent by their standards and while they are more than capable of picking up a win here, I think Everton’s need for the points, plus their home support, will be the catalyst for the home side to snatch the points here.

Newcastle United v Crystal Palace – Draw

These two teams have been in much better form over the latter half of the season and I think both will be looking to build on that over the rest of this season and also into next season. Palace have become a tough team to beat under Patrick Vieira, but having said that they have not picked up as many wins as they should have done, drawing an awful lot of games (a league high 13 with Brighton) which sees them just three points ahead of Newcastle. The Toon Army had a sticky run of three losses but ended that run with a win over Wolves. They face Leicester on Sunday and then this game and I think they will take at least four points from those games, three against Leicester and one from this game with Palace.

Bet Analysis: Thursday 21st April

Burnley v Southampton – Away Win

The decision to sack Sean Dyche was, for me, the most stupid one Burnley have made in many a year. The man has worked wonders at the club on a budget that most Championship teams would struggle with. I’m not surprised that Burnley fans are up in arms and that state of discontent I think will be the backdrop to this game. With Dyche, I’d have gone for Burnley to get something here, but without him, I think Southampton will take advantage of the unsettled nature around the club and come away with another win after their good win over Arsenal at the weekend.
