Midweek EPL Acca Tip – 18th, 19th & 20th October

Well, we started off great guns at the weekend with both my tricky Saturday tips coming in and I felt good heading into Sunday with two tips I felt were the strongest of the four I’d selected.

Only both of them didn’t pan out, which was a little frustrating, but once again at least it shows that I am not a million miles away.

And besides, I am still basking in the glow of that Champions League winning acca of last week a little.

However, there is no rest for me at the moment as while the European action has a week off, there’s no rest for most of the Premier League teams with 18 of the 20 teams in action in the EPL this week.

The only two who aren’t are league leaders Arsenal and second placed Manchester City, who were to play each other, but that game has been postponed to allow Arsenal to catch up their Europa League fixture against PSV Eindhoven, which will take place on Thursday.

So this means a chance for the teams chasing the top two to close the gap and the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea, Man Utd, Newcastle and Liverpool will be amongst those hoping to take full advantage.

There’s some big games in midweek including Manchester United hosting Tottenham at Old Trafford, Liverpool taking on West Ham at Anfield and the vastly improved Newcastle United welcoming Everton to St James’ Park.

There’s also an intriguing London derby as Brentford take on Chelsea in what could well be one of the more intriguing games of the midweek fixture list.

Let’s now take a look at the games I’ve selected for my midweek EPL accumulator.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 18th October

Crystal Palace v Wolves – Home Win

This game looks like being a tight one and it may well be the case that one goal is enough to win it. Both these sides are decent defensively but Wolves in particular have had issues scoring enough goals with just four goals scored this season and while Palace have scored 10 they have managed just four goals in their last five games. As such, I can see a very close affair here at Selhurst Park and while Wolves may be the team that needs the three points the most, with that kind of scoring record I just can’t see them having the firepower to get the job done here. I feel Palace are good for at least one goal and while you could make a case for a draw (if you really stretched the point), I think that a 1-0 scoreline is the most likely outcome here for the home team.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 19th October

Bournemouth v Southampton – Home Win

A south coast battle between these two is one that hasn’t taken place too often over the years and the Saints have won the last two between the teams, winning 2-0 at Bournemouth in the Premier League in July 2020 and then a 3-0 win in the FA Cup last season. In fact, you have to go back to April 2018 to see a home team win this fixture, and that is the only home team victory in the last nine games between the two. That said, I actually feel Bournemouth are playing some great football at the moment and Gary O’Neill has got them going very well so even though the history suggests a Saints win, I am backing the Cherries to come out on top here with a rare home victory in this fixture.

Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur – Away Win

Last time out Manchester United were held 0-0 by Newcastle and before that they edged to a narrow 1-0 win over Omonia Nicosia, scoring in the last minute to defeat the Cypriot side in the Europa League. That’s not ideal preparation for the visit of a Spurs team who, a defeat to Arsenal apart, have been in generally good form this season. Antonio Conte seems to have tightened up Spurs at the back and now they need their forwards to find their feet. There are signs they are doing that with Kane second in the goalscorer charts behind Haaland but they do need a bit more from Son and Richarlison. United are always tough at home and have a great record in this fixture, but something tells me Spurs are going to land a famous win on the road here.

Bet Analysis: Thursday 20th October

Fulham v Aston Villa – Draw

Since beating Nottingham Forest away, Fulham have lost two and drawn one of their last 3 EPL games and they face a Villa side that have lost just once in their last five but who are struggling to find goals and a bit of confidence. Steven Gerrard’s men paid a heavy penalty at the weekend, gifting Chelsea two goals down to two individual errors and they simply can’t afford to keep doing that. That said, I do feel Villa have the quality to come back in the next few fixtures and I think they are good enough to claim a draw in this tricky trip south.
