Midweek Special Playoff-Themed Acca – 13th – 16th May

We were so close once again to landing another acca win in the past week, my Playoff acca tip for the weekend on Saturday fell just short by one result, Derby losing at home to Leeds United in a game which I felt, probably, deserved to go the way of the home side rather than the visitors.

However, it isn’t how teams play but the scoreline which counts although the penalty with which Leeds won the game looked incredibly harsh. It was so frustrating once again to some so close, with all my other results coming in pretty much bang on the money as I had predicted.

But the one thing with acca betting is that it only takes one win out of them all to put things right and I have an inkling that this selection of tips for the four playoff games taking place from Monday evening through to Thursday evening this week will be pretty close.

We have the League Two playoff between Forest Green and Tranmere Rovers first up on Monday night with Tranmere leading 1-0 from the first leg at Prenton Park on Friday. This is followed by West Brom and Aston Villa clashing at the Hawthorns on Tuesday, the Villains leading 2-1 from the first leg. On Wednesday it is the second leg of the Leeds v Derby clash from the Championship while things are rounded off on Thursday evening as Portsmouth face Sunderland facing a one goal deficit from the first leg at the Stadium of Light.

It promises to be a dramatic week ahead with a place at Wembley in each of the respective playoff finals at stake for each of the teams playing, the other two matches taking place on Sunday prior to these games being played.

Let’s take a look now at the tips for each game.

Bet Analysis: 13th May

Forest Green (0) v (1) Tranmere Rovers – Draw

Tranmere took a slight advantage into the second leg after they beat Forest Green 1-0 at Prenton Park on Friday night. The visitors were reduced to 10 men when Gavin Gunning was sent off for lashing out at Jay Harris after just 15 minutes and the fact that they ensured Rovers scored just the one goal, despite the home side having lots of possession, will be pleasing for them. Rovers may well rue those missed chances, but Tranmere have proved to be a tough side to beat, especially of late and while Forest Green have been something of Tranmere’s nemesis in recent years, I feel those 75 minutes with 10 men will play heavily in the Forest Green legs here and I am backing this one to end all-square sending Tranmere back to Wembley for the third year in a row in the playoffs.

Bet Analysis: 14th May

West Brom (1) v (2) Aston Villa – Draw

The first leg between these teams was arguably the most dramatic of all the games taking place this weekend. West Brom went in front thanks to Dwight Gayle capitalising on a slip from Glen Whelan and late into the game it looked like they may hold on. However Villa roared back with goals from Connor Hourihane and a Tammy Abraham penalty to take the lead. Worse was to follow for the Baggies however as Dwight Gayle was then sent off ensuring he is suspended for this game. Villa are in a fantastic run of form at the moment and showed real grit to get back into this game and with only one recognised striker available to them, the Baggies are going to have to reshuffle things here in the second leg and that is never a positive. As such, I feel this one will end in another score draw and that means Villa will then progress into the final.

Bet Analysis: 15th May

Leeds Utd (1) v (0) Derby County – Home Win

Leeds United edged the first encounter between these teams at Pride Park thanks to a dubious penalty which, to my mind at least, should never have been awarded. Derby have seemed to struggle against Leeds this season but I felt they were probably the better team on the night but just could not find a way through. This second leg though, at Elland Road, will be a massive game for the Derby players and I think Leeds now have all the ace cards in their hand. A lead from the away leg, home advantage and likely massive support for a crucial playoff game. Add to that the experience of manager Marcelo Bielsa and I think that all adds up to another narrow win for Leeds here and for them a place in the playoff final.

Bet Analysis: 16th May

Portsmouth (0) v (1) Sunderland – Home Win

These two teams met on Saturday evening and a combative game at the Stadium of Lights saw the home side take a narrow 1-0 lead into the second leg. However, the Black Cats will be without centre back Ozturk who was sent off late in the game. Portsmouth have a decent home record over the course of the season at Fratton Park and it is a long journey south for the visiting fans and players. Sunderland hold the advantage, but in this return leg, I think Portsmouth, who threatened at times in the first leg, should have more of the game and I think they could sneak the win. However, it would not surprise me if we need extra time or even penalties to decide who eventually goes through to the playoff final in this one.
