Midweek UEFA Semi Finals 1st Leg Acca – 9th to 11th May 2023

With the three European competitions, the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League all now being at the semi final 1st leg stage, this week’s set of tips for our midweek Euro acca will feature matches from any of the three competitions.

So what that means is that it does give us a little more scope to look at some intriguing betting options across all six semi final 1st leg ties taking place this week.

Two Premier League sides are involved, Manchester City in the Champions League where they travel to face Real Madrid in a tricky first leg, while in the Europa Conference League, West Ham will take on Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in London in their 1st leg semi final tie.

There is real quality across all six semi finals with five Italian teams making it through into the final four across all three tournaments. AC Milan and Inter clash in the second Champions League semi final, while AS Roma and Juventus have their own Europa League semi finals coming up against Bayer Leverkusen and Sevilla respectively, while Fiorentina face FC Basel in the first semi final of the Europa Conference League.

With a big Premier League game also taking place on Tuesday night (Arsenal host Chelsea), I was tempted to add that into the mix too, but the only reason I didn’t was simply that I didn’t like the stats, or the odds, on this game and I felt there was much better value available in the European competitions.

So with that in mind let’s now take a look at how the tips for this week shape up in what will be six intriguing semi final 1st leg ties.

Champions League Bet Analysis: Tuesday 9th May

Real Madrid v Manchester City – Away Win

It is foolhardy to bet against Real Madrid in the Champions League and at home against any team, but I think Manchester City are playing so well at the moment, that there is every chance they can land a win here in the Bernebeu. I wasn’t too impressed with Real against Chelsea and while they did decimate Liverpool in the first leg at Anfield, they were helped by some calamitous Liverpool mistakes. Man City won’t make any such errors here and after beating Bayern Munich 4-1 on aggregate, I think City have the firepower to go to Madrid and claim what would be a sensational win here.

Champions League Bet Analysis: Wednesday 10th May

AC Milan v Inter Milan – Draw

AC Milan and Inter Milan will meet in a rare Milanese derby in the second semi final of the Champions League. With both ties set to be played at the shared San Siro in Milan, it is also somewhat convenient for both teams to have avoided the travel that usually is a part of any away leg in the tournament. The two games between the two in Serie A yielded a win for the ‘home’ team in each leg, AC Milan winning 3-2 back in September before Inter landed a revenge 1-0 win back in February. That shows how close these two teams are and with just 2 points separating them in the league, this will be a very close one and I think natural Italian caution will mean this game ends up in a draw.

Europa League Bet Analysis: Thursday 11th May

Juventus v Sevilla – Draw

This is a game that would not look out of place in the Champions League as Juventus host Sevilla in what should be a cracking tie over the two legs. The Italians home form hasn’t been quite as sharp as their away form in this competition of late and that will need to change here against a Sevilla side who have a remarkable record in this competition and who beat Manchester United 5-2 on aggregate, after being 0-2 down, in the quarter finals. Juventus have too much quality to lose this first leg I believe, but the way Sevilla play in this competition means I can’t back against them picking something up here and that is most likely to be a draw in my view.

Europa Conference League Bet Analysis: Thursday 4th May

West Ham United v AZ Alkmaar – Home Win

The final game this week comes from the Europa Conference League and sees West Ham United trying to go one better than last season and claim a spot in the final. They face tricky opponents in Dutch side AZ Alkmaar who lie fourth in the table just two points behind Ajax and five behind PSV, although they are well behind Feyenoord who are top by 8 points. The Hammers form has improved after their excellent 4-1 home win over Gent in the last round and by the time they play this game, they could have secured themselves a place in the Premier League top flight. I think they will and I also think that being at home will give them the impetus to take a nice lead into the second leg in the Netherlands next week.
