Premier League Acca – 13th & 14th March

We are back in action with the Premier League this week after the midweek European action and it promises to be a very interesting weekend of matches with some big games lined up across Saturday and Sunday.

There are games on Friday and Monday this week too, which leaves just eight games across the weekend, but amongst them are some crackers including Leeds United taking on Chelsea in a game that will have purists of 1970s football purring with delight.

If you haven’t seen any of the clashes between these two teams on YouTube from the early 1970s, I’d highly recommend it and you will be able to see why it would be the case if the game was played back then as it was today, both teams would have been down to about 3 men apiece at the end of the game.

There’s also the big North London derby game on Sunday with Arsenal hosting Tottenham in what should be a very interesting game. Spurs have had the better of things in the most recent meetings between these two teams and with Bale, Kane and Son now all in tandem and starting to fire together, that is a worrying sign for an Arsenal defence that has defended like the Keystone Cops in some recent games.

We’ve also got Manchester United facing West Ham on Sunday night in what should be a good game at Old Trafford which will have a real impact on both teams chances of Champions League football next season.

Let’s take a look at my predictions for this weeks games.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 13th March

Leeds United v Chelsea – Away Win

This game will bring back plenty of memories for older fans of clashes between the two in the 1970s. Not only were both teams at the pinnacle of the game in England in those days, but they were two teams that were not to be trifled with and not averse to roughhouse play. This game will be a much more sedate affair, even with Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds involved. I think Chelsea are evolving nicely under Thomas Tuchel and while Leeds will huff and puff, I think the extra quality Chelsea have in defence and their ability on the counter attack, will be the key to them landing an important away win here.

Fulham v Manchester City – Away Win

After last weekend’s defeat to Manchester United ended their 21 game unbeaten run, City bounced back in midweek with a 5-2 win over Southampton in a game in which both sides could have scored more, but City could have had a fair few more. Fulham’s recent form is excellent but they were beaten at home by Tottenham the last time they played at Craven Cottage and while they did win at Liverpool, as we predicted last week, they are going to find Manchester City a much tougher nut to crack. Fulham will make it tough here, but I do feel City are still very much good value for the win.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 14th March

Southampton v Brighton – Home Win

These two South Coast sides have been in the midst of a slump in form of late. Brighton’s one point from the last 15 available has seen them caught on points by Fulham and they are now only out of the relegation zone on goal difference. Southampton have seven more points than Brighton and should be out of the relegation battle but their drop in form has been equally as worrying as the Seagulls. I do see more signs of Southampton coming out of their slump than Brighton at the moment and despite that 5-2 thumping at Man City in the week, I am backing Southampton to land an important win here.

Arsenal v Tottenham – Away Win

Tottenham have had the upper hand in this fixture in recent times losing just one of the last seven and they have beaten Arsenal in the reverse fixture 2-0 back in December. In truth, I can’t see much different here as despite the fact Spurs are away from home, I still feel that man for man and in terms of their form in general, they are the best team. Arsenal’s defence really worries me too, they look so fragile and make so many mistakes that you cannot trust them. With Bale, Son and Kane now firing on all cylinders in attack, I am backing them to lead Spurs to another big North London derby victory here.
