Premier League Acca: 28th & 29th November
I’m a little frustrated this week after my midweek acca tip was 100% on the money for Tuesday’s Champions League games, only for Wednesday’s games not to play ball and bomb for me.
The frustration comes from a fact that in a separate article, I predicted the result of all eight of Tuesday’s games absolutely on the money. Yet on Wednesday night, I’m not even sure I got more than a couple of results right. Admittedly, there were a few surprise home defeats in the mix (Inter Milan and Liverpool for certain), while Atletico were also held at home by Lokomotiv Moscow, but even so I was disappointed with my tips for that night.
However, the positive thing with accumulator bets is that you only need to land one to ensure yourself a profit over the course of the year and I am hoping that I can do that this weekend with our selection below for games in the Premier League.
We do at least now have a clear run through of games from now until the new year so it is a good chance for teams to get a little more rhythm without the enforced breaks for internationals.
One thing to note this weekend is that it is a ‘long’ weekend in the EPL, with the first game on Friday evening and two more on Monday evening, which means we have just seven across Saturday and Sunday to pick from for our accumulator this weekend, but I think I have put together a very appealing bet and one that stands a good chance of success I feel.
I think Jurgen Klopp will have learned a lesson from the Reds midweek loss to Atalanta and that is changing so many players, especially in defence, just hands the initiative to the opposition. While that decision backfired for Klopp, I do think the players rested for that game will benefit from that in this one. Brighton come into this game on the back of a good win away to Aston Villa and they have pushed a few teams hard at home this season, but their record there is not the best. Liverpool’s performances on the road this season have been a little erratic at times, but I feel that having learned from that defeat in midweek, the Reds will be at their best here and will claim a narrow but important win.
West Brom v Sheffield United – Draw
Neither of these teams has earned a victory this season and both will likely feel therefore that this is their best chance to do so. Both are struggling for goals, with West Brom scoring just six and the Blades just four and despite being two points worse off, the Blades have a better defensive record than West Brom. For me, these are two sides struggling for form, confidence and goals and with both coming into this game on the back of several straight defeats in the Premier League, three for West Brom, four for Sheff Utd, I think arresting that slump may be more pressing for both sides than trying to go for the win. As such, I think this looks like being a very closely fought draw.
Bet Analysis: Sunday 29th November
Southampton v Manchester United – Away Win
After losing their opening two games of the season, Southampton have won five and drawn two of the next seven to be one of the form teams in the Premier League and they occupy 5th spot in the table. They face a Man Utd side who have won their last two to move up to tenth and who have a game in hand on most of the teams around them. The Saints will miss Danny Ings threat in attack for this game and I think that is crucial here as United’s defence is looking pretty solid at the moment and without Ings, the Saints attacking threat is much less. United’s ability on the counter is also a real threat too and I just feel that this will be the difference between the two teams on the day and enable United to secure another win.
Chelsea v Tottenham – Draw
The last eight of these games between these two teams have seen them each win four (albeit Tottenham’s most recent win in the cup over Chelsea in September came via penalties after a 1-1 draw). Both come into this game in very good form having lost just once all season long and with Spurs top and Chelsea third in the table, there is a huge amount at stake for both teams. Having seen how the cup game between these two teams went, their records at the moment and the strength of squad for each, it is a very tough one to call. Chelsea do have an extra 48 hours to prepare for this game but something tells me Jose will have a plan to deal with that and I think Spurs will do just enough to claim a share of the spoils here.
