Premier League Acca – Matchday 6 – 3rd & 4th September

After a midweek of action in the Premier League, we are certainly now into what is likely to be the busiest part of the season as after this weekend’s set of games, the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League all get underway from Tuesday to Thursday next week.

That means the teams in Europe will certainly have very busy schedules ahead of them over the next month or two, and with the World Cup on the horizon to start at the end of November, this could be a crucial period for teams seeking to position themselves well both domestically and in Europe ready for the post-World Cup action.

I think we have already seen some teams starting to prepare for this. Manchester City swapped out some key players against Nottingham Forest in midweek and over the next few weeks, I am sure we will see all the teams in Europe do likewise.

That can make predicting results tricky but I am not going to use that as an excuse as the squads these teams in particular have mean that even if they rest players, they will still put out excellent first team selections.

This week we begin with some key action in the Premier League that features no less than three derby games; the Merseyside derby kicks things off on Saturday at lunchtime as Everton host Liverpool and then we have two London derbies as Tottenham host Fulham and Chelsea take on West Ham.

Then on Sunday, the focus switches primarily to Old Trafford where an improving Manchester United will host the league leaders Arsenal, who are aiming to preserve their 100% 5-game winning start to the season.

There are some tricky selections to consider this weekend, so here’s my selection of tips for the games taking place on Saturday and Sunday.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 3rd September

Everton v Liverpool – Away Win

Everton’s record in the Merseyside derby of late is shocking with just one win in the last 26 games between the two teams. That came at Anfield just a couple of years ago and their last win at home over Liverpool was back in 2010. The Reds haven’t started the season as well as they would have liked but two wins on the bounce against Bournemouth and Newcastle have steadied the ship somewhat. Everton have not lost their last three, drawing all of them, but they have not won yet this season and have found scoring goals very difficult to come by. Liverpool have at least scored a few goals and I think that will be enough to lead them to another much needed win against their oldest rivals on Saturday.

Brentford v Leeds United – Draw

Both these teams have blown a little hot and cold over the course of the season so far. Both have had superb wins, Brentford beating Man Utd 4-0 and Leeds beating Chelsea 3-0, but also both have struggled for consistency in games against lesser opponents and have stumbled to draws or narrow defeats in games that they perhaps will feel they should have done better in. As such, I think both these teams are very well matched and with the players that both have brought in, and with two attack-minded managers, I think we will see an entertaining game here, but one that will eventually finish in a draw.

Newcastle Utd v Crystal Palace – Home Win

Newcastle were exceptionally unlucky to lose at Anfield in midweek to a 98th minute winner for the Reds. Alexander Isak looks like being a fantastic addition in attack and if they can get back some of their most influential players for this game, like Bruno Guimaraes and Allan Saint-Maximin, then I think they will be too strong for Palace. Patrick Vieira’s team have had a good start and have Wilfried Zaha in great goalscoring form at the moment, but there is a feel-good factor at Newcastle at the moment and I think that and their good form will be enough to see them home in a tight one here.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 4th September

Manchester United v Arsenal – Draw

This should be a hugely entertaining and interesting game at Old Trafford. United could give a debut to their big new signing Antony, while Arsenal will be focused on maintaining their superb start to the season by registering their sixth win in six games. The Gunners have a good recent record against Manchester United, losing just one of their last seven games against the Red Devils, and the way they have started the season means they should be confident of getting something here. United’s slow start has been ended and they have won all their last three games, but Arsenal is going to be a very stern test for the home side here and I think while the Gunners won’t take all the points, they’ll do enough to take one back to London with them.
