Premier League Accumulator – Matchday 8 – 17th & 18th September

After an unexpected hiatus, the Premier League is back this week and for some teams it is a chance to get back on track and for others, it is a hugely important week as they try to sustain their excellent start to the season.

Much has changed since we last had a round of games. Chelsea now have a new manager in ex-Brighton boss Graham Potter, after Thomas Tuchel was given the shove following their Champions League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb. Brighton now are searching for a new man to come in and replace him.

We’ve seen talk of Liverpool having to ‘reinvent’ themselves after a less than stellar start to the season, particularly away from Anfield, while there is constant speculation that Brendan Rodgers could face the sack after Leicester’s dismal start to the season.

This weekend is a somewhat unusual one because we have one game that has already been postponed due to the planned rail strike making journeys to the game between Brighton and Crystal Palace almost impossible for many fans.

Allied to that, we have two games on Friday night as Aston Villa host Southampton and two newly promoted sides, Nottingham Forest and Fulham clash at the City Ground in what promises to be a somewhat exciting and goal-packed affair.

That means we just have seven games to pick from for our weekend accumulator bet but there are some cracking matches in that, including what is a must-win game at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea and Liverpool meet with both sides having enjoyed less than stellar starts to the season.

We also have Brentford hosting Arsenal in a rare London derby and at Old Trafford Manchester United will face fierce rivals Leeds United in what should be a cracking game.

With Man City facing a tricky trip to Wolves to test themselves against the best defence in the Premier League (but also the worst attack), could this be a weekend when we see a bit of a change in teams fortunes this season?

Check out my four tips for the weekend acca below.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 17th September

Tottenham v Leicester City – Home Win

Tottenham have been one of the more consistent teams this season and they remain unbeaten in their six games played so far, winning four. Leicester have had a miserable campaign so far and with several players having left the club and manager Brendan Rodgers and his coaching team seeking some guidance from the board about players coming in, the Foxes are a hard watch right now as they seem to be struggling and sorely lacking confidence. With key players out of form, this should be a relatively comfortable win for Tottenham at home against the current side occupying bottom spot in the table. Don’t be too surprised either if Spurs manage to grab a fair few goals in this one against that struggling Leicester defence.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 18th September

Brentford v Arsenal – Away Win

Last season Brentford put Arsenal to the sword in their opening game at home, winning 2-0 and amazingly, the Bees have won more games against Arsenal (6) than they have lost (5) with four draws between the two. Given their excellent home form, it is a tough call to back against Brentford here but this Arsenal team looks light years different to the one that struggled against the Bees at the Community Stadium last season and in Gabriel Jesus, they have arguably the best inter-Premier League signing of the season with the Brazilian in fine form. This should be a great watch but I am backing Arsenal to land a narrow win.

Everton v West Ham United – Draw

Just two teams in the Premier League are yet to win after six games, bottom club Leicester City is one and the other is Everton. The Toffees have put together a run of four successive draws, the last one coming against Liverpool, but they badly need to start picking up points to move away from the drop zone and Frank Lampard will be well aware of that as he takes on one of his former teams. West Ham’s start has been equally as poor, with the Hammers losing four of their six games and they have picked up just one win in those games. I can’t quite see them winning here either, but I do feel they are good enough to end up taking a point.

Chelsea v Liverpool – Home Win

What has happened to both these teams this season. Chelsea lie 6th but have lost twice in their six games, Liverpool are seventh and are yet to win a game on the road this season and have struggled for performances in almost every game they have played, bar the thrashing of Bournemouth. Chelsea now have a new manager in Graham Potter and I think that is key here. The home side will get a real boost from that and given the Reds beat them in two Cup Finals last season, they will have revenge very much on their mind. I just can’t see Liverpool getting anything from this game the way they are playing at the moment, so a Chelsea win is the easy pick here.
