Premier League Matchday 2 Acca – 13th & 14th August

Last weekend we hit two correct, one that was very close and which should have been correct but for Leicester throwing away a two goal lead, and one that was nowhere near right as Aston Villa were very poor against Bournemouth.

So a mixed bag to start the season but I am hoping that for the second Matchday of the new Premier League season, things may start to improve a little.

There’s nine games taking place across the weekend with Liverpool hosting Crystal Palace in the first Monday Night game of the new season, and the highlight of the weekend is the first clash of the “Big Six” on Sunday as Chelsea host Tottenham in what should be a cracking game between two of London’s likely top four challengers this season.

There is also a crucial game for Manchester United as they take on Brentford at the Community Stadium on the back of a shocking 2-1 home defeat to Brighton; a result which has already piled the pressure on Erik Ten Hag and has further stoke anger amongst many United fans with the clubs owners.

For other teams such as Brighton, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Man City and Arsenal, it is a chance to land a second win of the season and cement a cracking start to the new campaign.

Things can be a bit tricky at the start of the season in terms of predicting results and whatnot as there’s precious little data to go on for the teams, but over the next few weeks, as things sort themselves out, I am confident things will become more clear and that we will hit a winner sooner, rather than later.

Let’s hope that starts with this selection of tips for this weekend.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 13th August

Southampton v Leeds United – Away Win

I have to admit, I said Southampton would struggle from the off and having seen them thrashed 4-1 by Tottenham last week, that after taking a 1-0 lead in the game, I haven’t changed my opinion on that. The problem for Saints is that I can’t see where the goals come from and with no Broja leading the line and no major signings, I cannot see them scoring enough goals. Leeds I felt did well against Wolves last week and their new signings shone. Jesse Marsch will know this is a great opportunity for his team to get off to a 100% start after two games and I have a feeling they may have enough attacking firepower to pick up the win on the road here.

Wolves v Fulham – Home Win

Wolves boss Bruno Lage was not happy after his team’s loss to Leeds last weekend but he will have a chance to put that right here against a Fulham side that fully deserved their draw with Liverpool at Craven Cottage last Saturday. The Londoners stopped the Reds from playing for large parts of the game and if they can play like that throughout the season, they should be safe from the drop. Wolves though are a tough team to beat, especially at Molineux and after losing last week, I think the home side will have plenty of motivation to land the win here against a Fulham side that tended to struggle on the road the last time that they were in the Premier League.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 14th August

West Ham v Nottingham Forest – Home Win

Had West Ham managed to convert one of their early chances they created against Manchester City last week, they may have done better than that 0-2 loss they suffered against the Champions. Forest were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle and they face a second away game in the space of a week and if anything, I think this is a tougher ask than the game last week. Forest do have a lot of new players and they showed some decent things against Newcastle but I can’t see them having any more luck against the Hammers here and I am backing West Ham to come away with a very solid home win here.

Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur – Draw

Both these teams earned very good opening day wins, Chelsea 1-0 at Everton and Tottenham a 4-1 home win over Southampton after going 0-1 down in that game. Chelsea have not conceded a goal against Spurs in any of the last six games, winning four of those matches and they’ll be hoping to continue that run here. The problem is I can’t quite see that as I feel Spurs have one of the most potent attacks in the Premier League this season. However, Spurs are a bit shaky defensively, while Chelsea looked more solid in that area against Everton. All things considered, I think this is going to be a very close game and I would not be surprised if the two battle out an entertaining draw.
