Premier League Matchday 22 Tips – 4th & 5th February

Well, last weekend’s FA Cup tips were a bit of a washout, chiefly because there were a huge number of drawn matches in the Fourth Round set of games, which is going to make for an interesting week when the replays come around.

Anyway, we are back on more familiar territory this week with the return of the Premier League and we have a total of nine potentially action-packed games taking place on Saturday and Sunday this week.

That’s because the London derby between close rivals Chelsea and Fulham takes place at Stamford Bridge on Friday night with both teams very much in need of picking up three points from that game.

The remaining games take place across Saturday and Sunday with the majority of matches on the latter, including a crucial match up between Everton, now under the guidance of Sean Dyche as manager, and the impressive league leaders Arsenal, who are going from strength to strength under Mikel Arteta.

Other key games include Liverpool travelling to Molineux to take on Wolves just a couple of weeks after their FA Cup replay saw the Reds land a 1-0 win after a 2-2 draw at Anfield. We also see Newcastle hosting West Ham, Manchester United taking on Crystal Palace and a Midlands derby as Aston Villa host Leicester.

The big game of the weekend comes on Sunday in London as Tottenham host Manchester City just a couple of weeks after their 4-2 loss to City at the Etihad, with the home side coming back from 2-0 down to secure the win with a fine second-half fightback.

Anyway, here’s my tips for this weeks February EPL acca!

Bet Analysis: Saturday 4th February

Everton v Arsenal – Away Win

Can Sean Dyche instil some of his grit and determination into a struggling Everton side? The Toffees have won a league low 3 games this season and while they have drawn a fair few, that lack of wins is what has them one place above the bottom of the table on goal difference alone. Dyche’s team will have a baptism of fire as they take on the league leaders on Saturday lunchtime, with Arsenal in superb form after their win over Manchester United in their last Premier League game. The Gunners have lost just once this season and they are deservedly top of the table and Everton could not have a tougher test. I think we will see a tighter game than we expect but I still expect Arsenal to come out on top.

Aston Villa v Leicester – Home Win

These two Midlands side have had somewhat similar seasons, although they have picked up results at different times and at the moment, it is Villa in the ascendancy with Unai Emery having a positive impact since taking over from Steven Gerrard. Brendan Rodgers though has seen his Leicester side slide right off the pace at the top of the table and they are very much in the battle against relegation. James Maddison returning should give them a real boost in attack but at the moment, it is Villa that look the better side and with home advantage you would expect them to take the game to Leicester and take the win here.

Wolves v Liverpool – Draw

There’s no doubt that Wolves were hard done by in their FA Cup draw with Liverpool at Anfield. However they performed poorly in the replay at Molineux allowing Liverpool to progress with a 1-0 win. I’d expect Wolves to want to put that result right here against a Liverpool side that have not really got going in the New Year. Defeats to Brighton and Brentford have stalled the Reds attempts to climb back up the table and their away form which has seen them lose five games already this season. Defensively, Liverpool have looked more solid in recent games and that could be key here as I think we could be in for a tight game and most likely a 0-0 or 1-1 draw as the outcome.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 5th February

Nottm Forest v Leeds Utd – Draw

Both these teams come into this game with pretty similar form, and it has been an improvement in form of late for both teams, although Leeds form does include a couple of wins in the FA Cup. Forest have made big improvements in the past few months in the EPL as their newly acquired squad has started to gel and Leeds United have drawn three of their last four, which shows that they are tough to beat but find wins hard to come by. That is precisely the reason that I am backing the draw here because with home advantage I can’t see Forest losing this game, but by the same token, I can’t see them winning it against a Leeds side that does pose a real threat going forward.
