Premier League Matchday 36 Tips – 13th & 14th May

Well, on the plus side, my midweek tips for Tuesday and Wednesday saw a draw and an away win predicted and a draw and away win be the outcomes.

The problem was I’d backed the wrong match with my tips. Still, I’m not sure anybody saw the Milan derby finishing so conclusively in Inter’s favour, especially in that first leg while I was only one goal out on the Real Madrid v Manchester City game.

I’ll be focusing on the second legs of those games in my second Euro semi finals 2nd leg tips article next week, but for now we are back focused on the events set to happen this weekend in the Premier League.

We are now at Matchday 36 in the Premier League season and the vast majority of teams have caught up to the 35 fixtures that ought to have been played by now, which makes reading the table a little easier, especially when it comes to the relegation battle.

Last week’s results saw a rather dull weekend give way to a manic Monday of Premier League action which saw three games provide us with 21 goals, and two teams moving out of the drop zone, in Everton and Nottingham Forest, which dropped Leeds United and Leicester City back into it.

With defeats for Newcastle United and Manchester United, Liverpool closed the gap on Manchester United to just a point, albeit with the Red Devils having a game in hand, but the race for Champions League places next season is certainly heating up.

And of course, Arsenal are keeping Manchester City keen with another big win last weekend, which keeps them hot on the heels of the current and wannabe future Champions.

As usual, I’ve gone through this weekend’s games and cup up with the following tips!

Bet Analysis: Saturday 13th May

Southampton v Fulham – Away Win

Things do not look great for Southampton right now. The defeat at Nottingham Forest saw them move eight points away from safety with three games remaining. They are on life support but in truth, their hopes of survival look doomed. Fulham have been a tricky team to judge this season, landing some great wins and good performances but also playing poorly from time to time. Palhinha looks a very good signing for them in midfield and the Londoners have the 7th best away record in the Premier League, against comfortably the worst home record in Southampton. As such, i can only really go for a win for Fulham here  in a game which if Southampton don’t win, then they will be relegated for sure.

Aston Villa v Tottenham – Draw

These two teams are separated by just three points and a couple of goals in the Premier League, so much so that a win for Villa by enough goals (three) would see them leapfrog over Spurs in the league table. The Villains had been in a great run of form until recently but they have now lost their last two and the confidence they had built up from that long unbeaten run has dwindled a little. Spurs form has been inconsistent of late and while they are fighting for Ryan Mason as their stand-in manager, they are not looking like the Spurs team of a few years ago. I think Aston Villa may have the more possession in this game, but I think a draw is the most likely outcome.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 14th May

Brentford v West Ham – Home Win

Brentford have had a solid season and sit in the middle of the table quite comfortably. West Ham have had a disappointing season, especially on the road where their 12 points collected has them ranked the fourth worst away record in the Premier League. However, last week the Hammers beat Manchester United while Brentford were losing at Liverpool and the visitors also had the first leg of their Europa Conference League semi final on Thursday night at home to AZ Alkmaar. You can forgive them for being distracted and a bit fatigued from that here and with this being a London derby and the Bees at home, I think Brentford will just edge the win here.

Arsenal v Brighton – Home Win

The Gunners produced a fantastic display last weekend to win 2-0 away to Newcastle, a result which keeps up their chase of Manchester City at the top of the table. Brighton went down to one of the shock defeats of the season when they were beaten 5-1 at home by relegation threatened Everton in a result nobody, least of all me, saw coming. I can see Roberto De Zerbi’s team reacting to that loss by going at it hard here, but a trip to Arsenal to land a win is never easy. With the league now very much on the line over the last three games, I am backing Arsenal to keep up the pressure on City with a win here.
