Premier League Midweek Acca Tips: 19th to 21st January

Despite me getting the second two games of my acca tip bang on the money, Leeds let me down against Brighton and I think the Fulham game was going to be a winner until the home side were reduced to 10 men against Chelsea just before half time, which played a key role in Chelsea nabbing a 1-0 victory.

I’m not beating myself up about that though. Leeds are a flaky side, just as likely to beat a bottom side 5-0 as they are to lose 3-0 at home to them. It’s their nature due to the way they play. The Fulham game was decided by the sending off and until that moment, a draw (which I had tipped), looked a very good bet.

So I am heading into this set of midweek games with a bit more confidence. We do have a number of very low odds selections to pick from in this set of games, so this bet is not the greatest in terms of the total odds, but I am hopeful that those shorter odds will translate into a much greater chance of success.

The games we have here are the remaining games from Matchday 18, the first part of which was played in midweek last week, plus a game that was postponed from earlier in the season, in the form of the Manchester City v Aston Villa clash (if that game can go ahead).

I’ve deliberately not picked that game as one for this selection this week as Aston Villa’s games have been postponed of late and I’m not 100% certain this will be played, so I have tried to focus on games that seem likely to go ahead.

Can Liverpool end a run of three EPL games without a goal at home to Burnley? Will Man Utd’s unbeaten form continue away to Fulham on Wednesday night? How will the big game at the King Power Stadium turn out on Tuesday as Leicester City welcome Chelsea? Those games plus West Ham at home to West Brom form the basis of this week’s selections.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 19th January

West Ham v West Brom – Home Win

West Ham picked up their second win in a row at the weekend when beating Burnley 1-0 at home, that was their fourth game without conceding a goal in a row and means David Moyes team has picked up seven of the last nine points available in the Premier League. Unbeaten in five in all competitions, they go into this game against West Brom with the Baggies having picked up a massive win away to Wolves last weekend. That win leaves West Brom six points from safety still but was only their second win all season long. However, I can’t see them repeating the trick here against a West Ham side that are very good value for their 9th position in the table. I am backing the Hammers to win a tight one here by a single goal.

Leicester City v Chelsea – Draw

Third placed Leicester are unbeaten in their last six and they face a Chelsea side that stopped a poor run of EPL results at the weekend with a narrow 1-0 win at Fulham. I thought Frank Lampard’s men were a little lucky to land that win, playing all the second half against ten men certainly helped them a great deal. Leicester’s home form is a bit of a worry here even though recently they have picked up good results at home in a 2-2 draw with Man Utd and a 2-0 win over Southampton. However, Chelsea I think will have a bit more confidence in this game and they know it is a game that they cannot afford to lose. I don’t think they will as I feel this game looks very much like a score draw.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 20th January

Fulham v Manchester United – Away Win

Fulham’s fine run of five games unbeaten in the Premier League came to an end against Chelsea at the weekend. They now face another very tough task against a Man Utd side that have won seven and drawn two of their nine away games in the Premier League this season. Fulham’s new found resilience will make this a tough ask for United but I think it is a test they will pass to secure another three points on the road.

Bet Analysis: Thursday 20th January

Liverpool v Burnley – Home Win

Despite being the Premier League top scorers, Liverpool have not scored in any of their last three games, not won in four and have dropped from being clear at the top of the table to fourth and potentially fifth if Everton win their game in hand. This is as big a crisis as Jurgen Klopp has faced in the last few years as boss but I think despite Burnley being the only team to get a point at Anfield last season, the Reds will get back to winning ways here, although they are going to have to improve their performance levels a great deal if they are to match the two Manchester sides at the top of the table.
