Premier League Tips: 15th, 16th & 17th February

Winner! Winner! Chicken Dinner! While Manchester City’s game may have been cancelled, the good news is that Acca Tipsthe other three tips were a winner on last weekend’s Accumulator, which saw us earn a return of around 9/1 on our bet, which means we landed around £100 in total for a £10 stake. Not bad especially considering that we had won big just at the start of January too.

So maybe having a smaller selection of games due to being the winter break, not to mention storm Ciara, focused the mind a little and saw us land our second decent win of the year. The good news is that I am now well up on the year with well over £450 in winnings banked from accas alone.

I am hopeful that we can add to that this weekend too, although I have extended my range of games to take in the big game on Monday night too in the Premier League, although I have omitted the game on Friday night as I didn’t want to spread myself too thin across the six games this weekend.

Let’s hope that this second selection of games for Matchday 26, or the mid-winter break as it is now known, proves to be as successful as the first.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 15th February

Southampton v Burnley – Home Win

Southampton haven’t won any of their last three, but in that time they played Spurs twice in the FA Cup and Liverpool at Anfield. In general, their form has been pretty good. Burnley went from the sublime to the ridiculous, beating Leicester and then Man Utd, before losing to Norwich and then drawing with Arsenal. Who knows what Clarets team will turn up for this one but of the two, my money is on a Southampton win. I think they are starting to click nicely now for Ralph Hassenhutl and I think they have a real goalscoring threat in ex-Burnley man Danny Ings who could well prove to be the difference between the teams here. This will be close but I am backing the home side to emerge with the three points

Bet Analysis: Sunday 16th February 2020

Aston Villa v Tottenham – Away Win

Much of the newspaper column inches about Aston Villa this week have been about whether Jack Grealish will stay or leave his boyhood heroes. I think that constant speculation doesn’t do the player, nor his team any good, especially in the middle of a relegation battle. Tottenham are unbeaten in their last five with three wins in their last four. Their progress under Jose Mourinho has been steady rather than spectacular but there is clear evidence that they are becoming tougher to beat and I am expecting them to prove that here by picking up a crucial three points at Villa Park on Sunday.

Arsenal v Newcastle Utd – Draw

What kind of impact has Mikel Arteta had at Arsenal? Well, the Gunners are not losing too many games, just six in the Premier League this season, but they have drawn far too many. They face a Newcastle side that are also in a fine run of form and who also have not lost a game in their last five in all competitions. Steve Bruce has done a very under-appreciated job with this team since taking over from Rafa Benitez and I think they are a real danger to teams like Arsenal who are struggling to convert chances to take maximum points from games. As such, I am tipping Newcastle, with a weeks rest behind them, to claim a point from a battling draw with Arsenal here.

Bet Analysis: Monday 17th February 2020

Chelsea v Manchester United – Away Win

Monday night’s game no doubt is the biggest of the winter break period as fourth placed Chelsea take on a Manchester United side who will have designs of their own on clambering into the top four. Neither of these two teams are in particularly great form coming into this game, but I do remember that Chelsea were well beaten on the opening day by United at Old Trafford in a 4-0 defeat. I don’t doubt Frank Lampard’s men will have revenge on their mid for that defeat but I can’t quite see that happening here. With some key men back, I think United could spring a surprise here and make that race for fourth all the more exciting by claiming an away win.
