Premier League Weekend Acca – 30th April – 1st May

At the moment, I am waiting to see how my other three midweek tips turn out after my Tuesday night tip in the Champions League came in, so fingers crossed I have something positive to report from that next week!

Last weekend we hit two results correctly, but a couple let us down, but I get the feeling that I am not too far away and as we come into the final five games or so of the season for most teams, I would like at least one more win to finish the season on a high.

This weekend, we have another set of Premier League games from Saturday through to Monday. The top two are in action on Sunday with Liverpool furious that their game with Newcastle has been set for a 12.30pm kick off, rather than later in the day, while Manchester City kick off at 5.30pm in their away game against Leeds.

The race for fourth continues too with Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United, West Ham and perhaps even Wolves still embroiled in the battle, although it does look very much as if it is a straight chase between Arsenal and Spurs to finish third behind Chelsea.

At the other end of the table, there’s some excitement as Everton have now dropped into the bottom three with Burnley winning their last two games to climb out of the drop zone and two points clear of the Toffees. Everton though do have a game in hand but have a difficult end to the season with games away to Arsenal, Leicester and Watford to come, plus home ties with Chelsea and the tricky Brentford and Crystal Palace.

There’s a lot at stake in this weekend’s games and it could be a key one in deciding the major outcomes in the Premier League this season and my tips for four games are outlined below.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 30th April

Aston Villa v Norwich City – Home Win

It’s fair to say that after a bright start, Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa have been somewhat underwhelming of late, losing four of their last five games and drawing the other 0-0. Clearly Villa are in a rut and while not completely safe, they will know that one win will likely be enough to confirm their place in the EPL next season. I can see them getting that here against a Norwich side that have struggled in this division and who I think are already building for a Championship challenge next year in the division below. Villa’s quality players should be the difference-maker here and put the Villains back into the win column.

Watford v Burnley – Away Win

This is an absolutely crunch game in the battle to avoid the drop. Watford I think are already down, Burnley very much not so after two wins in their last two games has given them renewed hope. If they can land another here then they may well feel that they have given themselves every chance of another miraculous escape. Watford have not really improved any under Roy Hodgson and in truth, I thought his appointment was an odd one and smacked a little of desperation. Burnley seem to be doing well under Michael Jackson, which is odd because he was useless as Tranmere manager in League Two, but I think he can build on this momentum and land a massive win here for the Clarets.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 1st May

Everton v Chelsea – Home Win

Everton may have the worst away record in the Premier League, being without a win on the road since August, but at home, Frank Lampard’s team have done pretty well of late, although they have picked up four points in recent games against Newcastle and Leicester through very late injury time goals. Those three points gained though mean that the Toffees can still climb above Burnley if they win their game in hand. Goodison will be absolutely fever-pitch on Sunday for this game against Chelsea and the Toffees have a good record against the Londoners of late. Chelsea may be more focused on their FA Cup exploits now and Everton may well be able to take advantage.

West Ham v Arsenal – Away Win

This game is going to be a crucial London derby with a spot in the top four very much a reality for the winner, while the loser may be struggling to land the prize come the end of the season. Arsenal currently hold onto that position by virtue of their good form of late with wins over Chelsea and Manchester United in the past week. West Ham’s form has taken a battering in the league of late and they probably feel that the Europa League may be their best chance of European Champions League football next season. Given this game is also in between both legs of West Ham’s Europa League semifinal, I am backing Arsenal to take advantage and land the win here.
