Saturday’s Premier League Acca – 22nd December

Last weekend was one of those close calls where a goal here or there made a huge difference and asAcca Tips such things didn’t quite plan out as hoped. Still, at least I’m in the right ball park rather than miles out with my predictions and I’m hopeful we can land a Christmas cracker win this weekend.

The action actually begins in the Premier League on Friday night with Wolves taking on Liverpool at Molineux before there are eight games on Saturday and just the one on Sunday, which means for tomorrow’s tips, we’ll be looking beyond the Premier League once again.

Today though there are some intriguing games and once again, I’m not going to pick all the obvious wins but instead go for the greater odds, higher value bets. Sure it’s a little more risky but just one win can set you up for the season.

Here’s my selection of tips for the games in the Premier League on Saturday.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 22nd December

Bournemouth v Brighton – Draw

Bournemouth come into this game with just one win in their last five and having lost four of those games. Brighton have lost both their last two, but picked up seven points in the games before that,  so it is the visitors that have slightly the better form of the two teams heading into this game. Bournemouth have blown hot and cold of late after a good start to the season, Brighton have been more consistent and have started to pick up results on the road too, which has moved them into mid-table safety. This is a good game between two well-matched sides and with it being a derby game of sorts, I am backing this one to end in an entertaining draw.

Huddersfield v Southampton – Away Win

Huddersfield cannot afford to keep drawing blanks at home, their 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle last week means that they have scored just three goals at home in the Premier League. Southampton ended a barren run of results with a brilliant 3-2 win over Arsenal at St Mary’s on Sunday and I think that confidence will be oozing through them here. With Huddersfield so poor in front of their home fans I think one goal will win this and at the moment, it looks like Southampton would be the side most likely to secure it and the three points.

Newcastle Utd v Fulham – Home Win

Another crucial relegation battle takes place at St James Park, although if Newcastle can start to pick up points at home, their involvement in the relegation scraps will come to an end. Rafa Benitez side have a very good defensive record this season, better than Arsenal and Man Utd, but they have struggled for goals. But often one is enough to win and with Fulham struggling, even under new boss Claudio Ranieri, I think that Newcastle have the confidence following their win at Huddersfield last week to follow that up with a big win here which should take them clear of the bottom three by a considerable margin.

Cardiff City v Manchester United – Away Win

With Jose Mourinho sacked this week, Manchester United will have a caretaker boss in charge for the trip to Cardiff and it is going to be interesting to see who the new man picks to play in the team. Will Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial earn recalls? What will Juan Mata’s role be? Cardiff have good home form and before Mourinho’s sacking I felt they could have sprung an upset here, but when a manager goes, a good team tends to bounce back in the next fixture and land a win, Fulham did it against Southampton a few weeks ago and I can see Manchester United getting a similar positive result in Wales on Saturday evening.
