Sunday’s Premier League Treble – Sunday 25th August
Last weekend’s Sunday treble didn’t quite land but to be fair, I don’t know too many punters who backed Burnley to lose at home to Watford and then Manchester United to capitulate away at Brighton for the second season in a row.
I must admit after having watched the Brighton v Manchester United game that I do feel that Jose Mourinho is suffering from his third-season woes once again. There’s some real issues at that club with players like Pogba and Martial seemingly unhappy at the club and Mourinho seemingly at odds with Chief Executive Ed Woodward.
I was also surprised by Burnley’s defeat at home to Watford, although their Europa Cup exploits on Thursday may have contributed a little to that. I also feel I underestimated Watford a little and perhaps I need to bear that in mind going forward.
We have three games once again on Sunday and I think there’s a great chance of a decent return on this treble, so let’s take a closer look at these tips for Sunday’s Premier League action.
I think both these teams have had decent starts to the season, even considering Palace’s 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool on Monday. Watford of course have won both their games and look very strong and in Holebas have a player who has created two goals already this season (second best in the Premier League behind Man City left back Mendy). That said, I am not backing Watford to win this game. The Hornets have started well but they are a team that do blow hot for a couple of games, then cold. I think Palace have the stronger squad and will be more consistent over the course of the season. They gave Liverpool a real test on Monday and I think are well equipped to go to Vicarage Road and come away with a solid point against a team that have started the season well.
Fulham v Burnley – Draw
I’ve been a little disappointed with both these teams this season. Fulham have shown some worrying defensive issues in both their games so far and Burnley, after a good start at Southampton, were well beaten at home by Watford. Fulham’s team is very much newly put together and I think Slavisa Jokanovic is paying the price for so many changes in a short space of time. Burnley I think can bounce back from last weekend’s poor showing here but I think they’ll find it tough against a Fulham side that while shaky at the back, do look strong going forward. I can see both teams finding the net, but just the once apiece here and so I think a draw is the most likely outcome.
Newcastle United v Chelsea – Away Win
It’s hard to know what to make of Chelsea. They’ve won both their games, scoring three goals in each game, but while convincing against a poor Huddersfield, they went from being brilliant against Arsenal, to looking like they would concede a goal every time the Gunners came forward. Credit to them for securing the win in the second half though and I think that will boost their confidence against a Newcastle side that should have won against Cardiff last time out, but didn’t due to Kenedy’s last minute penalty miss. Will the Brazilian winger start against his former club? I think he will and he may even grab a goal, but I don’t think it will be enough as I am backing Chelsea to win this one 2-1, perhaps 3-1 if Eden Hazard is more involved.
