Sunday’s Football Acca Tip: 4th February 2018

There are some weekends when I put tips together and I feel that I am taking a bit of a leap of faith with some results, because I could see another result happening as opposed to the one I’ve picked. However, this weekend, I’ve got a really good feeling about my selections on both days, but particularly for Sunday.

There’s only the two Premier League games taking place today, with important clashes at the top and bottom of the table and Watford hosting Chelsea on Monday evening. So to add a couple of extra selections to my Sunday acca, I’ve gone for two big matches taking place across Europe, one from Ligue 1 in France and the other a top of the table clash in La Liga in Spain.

And looking at the tips, I’m relatively confident as I think the results kind of pick themselves and usually when you have that gut instinct over a game, it turns out to be right.

I can’t say I’m overdue a win having landed an acca at the end of the year but I would like to break the 2018 duck relatively quickly having had several near misses in the last few weeks, some by just one goal. However such is the volatility of this type of bet that just one goal can make or break it and unfortunately, that seems to have hindered us more than helped us in recent times.

That said I am confident that this weekend’s two tips stand an excellent chance of success and I’m excited to see how they turn out. Here’s my tips for Sunday’s matches across Europe.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 4th February

Crystal Palace v Newcastle United – Home Win – Both these teams have won, drawn and lost two of their last six games but I think of the two teams, it is Crystal Palace who have the better pedigree and quality as a Premier League team. Rafa Benitez has done a good job with Newcastle with little support from those that run the club and they are still battling for survival with a squad, which frankly, isn’t up to scratch by Premier League standards. Palaces’s squad you could argue, has underperformed this season but there are signs that Roy Hodgson has got things going in the right direction once again after an inconsistent spell. I don’t expect many goals at Selhurst Park today but I do fancy Palace to sneak the win.

Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur – Home Win – After both sides wins in midweek, combined with defeats for Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, this game now takes on huge importance in the race for the top four. A Spurs win and they could leapfrog Liverpool or Chelsea into fourth or even third in the table. A Liverpool win and the reds move five points clear of Spurs in fifth. Spurs do not have a good record at Anfield and Liverpool are a team who tend to play much better against better quality sides who try and beat them, rather than teams who dig in and just defend. The reds also have some payback for Spurs following their 4-1 defeat at Wembley in October. This will be close and I think there will be a fair few goals, but I am backing Liverpool to come out on top by a single goal.

Atletico Madrid v Valencia – Home Win – Not too long ago, Valencia were challenging strongly for second place in La Liga and seemingly the most likely contender to Barcelona’s chances of the league title, but three defeats in a row have dented their ambitions. Atletico Madrid have lost two of their last four too but they have home advantage and have conceded just nine goals in La Liga all season long. With Valencia’s confidence rocked by their recent defeats, and Atletico keeping hold of several key stars in the transfer window, I think the home side have more than enough quality to pick up the win here.

Monaco v Lyon – Draw – These teams met just a few days ago in the French Cup and it was Lyon who came out on top of an exciting game by a 3-2 scoreline. The visitors have also enjoyed a 2-1 win over Paris St Germain in recent games but they did go down to a 3-1 defeat last time out away to Bordeaux, which was a bi disappointment for them. Monaco have drawn three of their last six games and they are tough to beat at home, however Lyon have done so recently, but I don’t think lightning will strike twice here. I’m backing this one to be a draw.
