Sunday’s Football Accumulator – 23rd December
There is just one game in the Premier League this Sunday, which sees Everton take on Tottenham in what should be a cracking game at Goodison Park, so in order to fill out my usual Sunday accumulator, I am going to be looking outside of the English League once again.
My options though this week are going to be limited as several of the top league’s around Europe now enter the Winter Break period, so it may be a case of having some unusual teams in these tips over the next few weeks, when there aren’t enough Premier League games to go with on a particular day.
We’ve gone with the two games in the Bundesliga on Sunday, together with another game in La Liga, which pits two very in-form teams against each other in what should make a very good value accumulator for Sunday.
All that remains before I bring you my tips for the weekend is to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and I hope that along with all the gifts you find awaiting you on Christmas morning, Santa may land us a couple of acca wins over the weekend to keep us ticking over into 2019.
Here’s my tips for this weekend.
Sunday’s Premier League Accumulator Tip – 23/12/2018
Augsburg go into this game without a win in their last five and lying a worrying 14th in the table, just two points clear of the relegation zone in the Bundesliga. Wolfsburg have improved their form of late to move up to 8th in the table on the back of three wins and a draw in their last four games including a fantastic away victory at a very talented Eintracht Frankfurt side. The visitors have won their last two games on their travels and against an Augsburg team that are clearly struggling a little for confidence and form, I think the Green and White will end up taking all three points to continue their move up the Bundesliga table.
Leganes v Sevilla – Away Win
Both these sides have excellent recent form. Leganes are unbeaten since October and have picked up points against Celta Vigo, Atletico Madrid and Valladolid on that impressive run to move up to 16th in the league table. Sevilla though have equally impressive form and they lie in second place in the table, just three points behind Barcelona with the Catalan side being the last team to beat them back in October in La Liga. This is going to be a tough game between two in form sides, but I feel Sevilla’s need for points is the greater and they also have by far the better quality of the two teams and as such, I think that could be telling on Sunday.
Everton v Tottenham – Away Win
There’s no doubt that Everton have improved under Marco Silva, but in the last few weeks they haven’t really picked up the points to match their performance levels in games against the top teams in the Premier League. I fear that this may well continue against a Spurs team who have won all of their away games this season, bar two (Watford and Arsenal) and who seem well set up to counter attack on Everton in a similar way Watford did to clinch a draw recently. Add to that Spurs better quality players and Everton’s fragility at the back at home and I think Spurs will be the team celebrating on Sunday night.
Hoffenheim v FSV Mainz – Home Win
Hoffenheim showed in the Europa League this season that they are a team capable of scoring plenty of goals, but also liable to let a few in and in truth, that has been their mantra in the Bundesliga this season too. Scoring 30 goals but conceding 21. They face a Mainz side who occupy 10th and who score and concede fewer goals (14 scored, 19 conceded) but they were soundly beaten last time out on the road in a 4-1 defeat to Red Bull Leipzig. I think Hoffenheim are a similar team to Leipzig and as such, I think this could well be hard going for Mainz once again here.
