Sunday’s Weekend Acca – Sunday 3rd February
Last Sunday, we missed out on our second big acca win in the space of week simply because Real Sociedad could not score a single goal at home against the whipping boys of La Liga, Huesca. Had they managed to do so, then we’d have landed another very decent win to add to the one from the week before.
I was a little gutted by that as I felt that 99 times out of 100, Sociedad would win that game and that was more keenly felt after the results in midweek, which ranged from the unusual to the downright crazy. It’s safe to say I think that very few accumulator bets were landed on Tuesday or Wednesday nights this past week.
However, a new weekend dawns and with it we have a couple of Premier League games on Sunday including two intriguing games as Leicester face Man Utd and then Manchester City take on Arsenal. We’ll be tipping those games of course, as well as a couple of others taking place Sunday to bulk out the coupon and give us some better odds.
However, I don’t think I’ll be tipping Real Sociedad again anytime soon after they cost me last weekend! So without any further ado, here’s my fourfold for Sunday.
Udinese come into this game on the back of a poor run of form which has seen them win just one of their last eight Serie A games, whereas in contrast, Fiorentina have lost just one of their last six and beat AS Roma 7-1 in the Coppa Italia in midweek, just a few days after a dramatic 4-3 win in Serie A over Chievo, a win achieved with just 10 men. On paper, both these teams look pretty well matched but Udinese’s lack of goals (just 17 in 21 games in Serie A, the second worst record in the league) is a real worry and with Fiorentina in fine goalscoring form, I am backing them for the win here.
Leicester City v Manchester United – Away Win
After a superb performance at Anfield where the Foxes earned a richly deserved point, they now put their skills to the test against a Manchester United side that were held 2-2 at Old Trafford by Burnley in the week. The Red Devils had to come from 2-0 down late on to snatch that draw and while the spirit will have pleased manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the overall performance won’t have. Leicester have produced their best against the top sides this season though and while I feel they will give United a stern test, I can see Solskjaer making changes to his team and I think that will be the catalyst to ensure that Manchester United pick up the maximum points from this game.
Manchester City v Arsenal – Home Win
After defeat to Newcastle in midweek, Manchester City must have been relieved that Liverpool could only draw with Leicester at Anfield, extending their lead to five points at the top of the table. City will now know though that a win at home to Arsenal is a must. The Gunners were narrow winners over Cardiff in midweek, a win which moved them two clear of Manchester United in fifth place in the table, but they have struggled on their travels of late and City at home is arguably the toughest fixture of the lot. Arsenal could catch City on the break with their pace, but in truth, I can’t see anything but a Manchester City win here.
AS Roma v AC Milan – Draw
After a humiliating loss to Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia in midweek, AS Roma will want to bounce back against a Milan side that held Napoli to a draw last weekend and then defeated the same side 2-0 in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals in midweek. Only Juventus and Fiorentina have beaten Milan in recent months and they have lost just four games this season in the league, though they have drawn a high percentage of their games. Usually in these games, I feel home advantage is a key but with Roma’s confidence fragile, Milan’s strong and the two sides being well matched otherwise, I feel a draw is on the cards.
