Thursday’s Europa League Acca: 5th November 2020

We had a bit of a mixed bag last week in the Europa League, some results bang on the prediction, others a little way off, but perhaps with some mitigating factors, so this week I am aiming to get back on track with this quartet of tips from the games on Thursday night and there are a couple of crackers to sink our teeth into this week.

First up we have Rangers and their excellent start has seen them move into a commanding position in their group after wins over Standard Liege and Lech Poznan. However, they will face a real step up in class this week as they travel to Lisbon to take on the group favourites Benfica in the first of two games that could well decide who wins the group.

Spurs will be looking to bounce back after a surprise loss last week away to Royal Antwerp as they travel to Bulgaria once again to face Ludogorets Razgrad. Arsenal face another relatively easy home tie against Molde this week, while Celtic are also at home and they face a tricky task against a decent Sparta Prague side, albeit one that is not in great form at the moment.

Last up, Leicester City have arguably the ‘banana skin’ tie of the round as they face Braga from Portugal, a team with a proven track record of getting the better of British teams as they have beaten the likes of Wolves, Rangers, Liverpool and Manchester United amongst others in European competition over the years.

We’ve also got a huge game at the San Siro where Milan will take on a Lille side who came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Celtic last week. All in all, there are a number of cracking games to look forward to this week, so let’s take a look at our tips for four of them.

Bet Analysis: Thursday 5th November

Benfica v Rangers – Home Win

For me, this is one of the best games of the night as the two 100% sides in Group D clash in Lisbon. Rangers are yet to concede in Europe this season but it is fair to say that they face a much sterner test here than they have in their previous two games. Benfica have scored seven goals across their two games so far and while I can’t see them scoring plenty, I do feel that they will just have enough in reserve to eke out a narrow win to take control of the group.

Ludogorets Razgrad v Tottenham Hotspur – Away Win

After a very lacklustre first half display last week away to Royal Antwerp, not even introducing the big name players in the second half couls rescue a point for Spurs. Jose Mourinho now knows that a result in Bulgaria is a must against a Razgrad side that are still pointless in the group. Tottenham will know six points from these next two games will be crucial in their hopes of progressing through from the group and I think they will manage to land a narrow win here in a game that could have a fair few goals.

AC Milan v Lille – Home Win

The top two teams in Group H meet at the San Siro with Milan’s 100% winning record on the line against a Lille side that will likely be disappointed to only draw at home to Celtic last weekend. Both sides have started their respective domestic seasons very well too and they are both very much in form and there is no doubt Milan will feel that this series of two games against the French side will likely decide who wins the group. Celtic will be hoping Milan can do the double over their French opponents to increase their own chances of claiming a qualification spot in the top two and I think the home side will oblige with the first part of that with a win here at least.

Leicester City v Braga – Draw

The Foxes would have probably been a little wary when they were drawn in this group alongside Braga. Of all the Portuguese sides that play regularly in Europe, they are the ones that have possibly enjoyed the most success against British clubs in recent times, with notable wins over some of the biggest names in English and Scottish football to their bow. That said, I think this Leicester side is well set up to do well in Europe this season and I think they offer something a little extra, especially when Jamie Vardy plays up front. The Foxes will also be confident after winning both their opening group games, but Braga too are in a brilliant run of form. This one will be very close and as such, I think a draw is the most likely outcome.
