Wednesday’s Accumulator – Wed 24th April

Welcome to the second of our midweek Premier League/La Liga acca’s for this week and this is our quartet of games taking place on Wednesday night.

Of course, this includes the two big games at the top of the table in the Premier League with three of the top six in action as Arsenal face a daunting trip to a Wolves side who have been the match of the top six sides for the duration of the season, while the other game is a huge Manchester derby as United take on City at Old Trafford with United’s Champions League challenge and City’s Premier League title ambitions very much on the line.

We’ve also added to that two big games in La Liga, the first seeing second placed Atletico Madrid seek to secure that position against a Valencia side who have lost just five games so far this season and who after a poor start to the campaign now lie in 6th place in La Liga.

Following that we also have the Leganes v Athletic Bilbao clash which sees 11th take on 7th in La Liga with just five points between the teams in what has been a good season in particular for the home side.

Just a word to the wise that the first game in this acca kicks off a little earlier than usual at 6.30pm UK time, so you may want to ensure you get your bet sorted a little earlier than usual if you are going to back this acca this week and with the odds available on it, you’d be mad to miss out.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 24th April

Atletico Madrid v Valencia – Home Win

Both of these teams have lost just five games this season and while both are strong defensively, it is clear that Atletico, who have won 20 matches compared to just 11 for Valencia, have that extra attacking edge that makes them a much more dangerous outfit. The Wanda Metropolitano will be packed for this big game and while I can’t see there being many goals at all, I do think that Atletico’s extra attacking quality, even minus the suspended Diego Costa, will be the difference between the teams. I was tempted for the draw here too, a common result for me in this selection of tips, but I just feel that extra attacking power added to a big home advantage gives Atletico the edge in this one.

Leganes v Athletic Bilbao – Draw

Leganes have drawn with Real Madrid at home in recent weeks, beaten them at home in the cup and they have also held Valencia, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid as well as beating Barcelona on home soil this season in La Liga, which means that they are certainly no pushovers. However, their recent form hasn’t been great and in contrast, Bilbao, who have also picked up some decent results against top teams this season both at home and on the road, should be feeling confident as their form is considerably improved. While I can’t see Bilbao bettering the fortunes of the top teams mentioned above, I can see them holding Leganes to another  draw which would be the third drawn game in a row for the home side.

Wolves v Arsenal – Draw

Although Wolves have suffered a dip in performance following their FA Cup exit at the hands of Watford, they have always risen to the challenge of facing the top six this season and having earned a point at the Emirates against Arsenal, they will be confident of getting a positive result here. I was tempted to back Wolves to win as they have some superb results over the top six this season, but if Arsenal are good enough to go to Napoli and win, something Liverpool and PSG failed to do this season, then I think the Gunners, with Champions League qualification places on the line, can produce a similar level of performance here. Even so, I still fancy Wolves to get something from this game and a draw seems to be to be, just about, the best option.

Man Utd v Man City – Draw

This could well be the game which decides the fortunes of the Premier League season for both these teams. A win for Manchester City would put them in pole position for the title and would be a great end to a tough run of games. A win for United would not just massively dent City’s hopes of retaining their title but would thrust them into the mix for a Champions League qualification spot next season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men though are not in great form losing five of their last seven ahead of Sunday’s game with Everton. City though have started to look a little leggy late on in games and in a high-intensity derby game that could be crucial. I can see both teams scoring and I am just about tipping United to pick up a draw, a result which will probably not be of much use to either team.
