Weekend Premier League Acca – 11th & 12th March

No luck in the Champions League in midweek, but I do have my Europa League set of tips still to be played this week, so let’s hope they can turn us up a winner after so many near misses of late.

Last weekend was a bit of an odd one as I don’t think too many folks had the Correct Score down of Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United. Have Liverpool finally kick-started their season with that performance, or was it just a flash in the pan? We’ll find out on Saturday lunchtime against Bournemouth for sure I feel.

This weekend there are some big six-pointers for teams in the top half against teams in the relegation battle as alongside that opening game above, we have Everton v Brentford, Leicester v Chelsea, Tottenham v Nottm Forest, Leeds v Brighton, Crystal Palace v Man City, Man Utd v Southampton and Newcastle v Wolves.

Of course, it is tempting to think that in these games, results will go with the form, but that is not always the case as any Arsenal fan can tell you after their trip to Everton.

We’ve also got an intriguing game between West Ham and Aston Villa on Sunday, plus a top half clash between Fulham and Arsenal in what should be a cracker at Craven Cottage.

Check out my tips for this weekend’s action below.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 11th March

Leicester City v Chelsea – Home Win

Leicester have lost their last three games, while Chelsea have landed two wins in their last two, so it seems that the Londoners are the team to back here. Only, I am not too sure of that. Chelsea did well in Europe in the week but whether that form transfers over in a tough away game at Leicester I am not sure. They have looked very poor on the road in recent times while Leicester, despite their losses, have been creating chances against teams, if they have not been clinical enough to take them. The Foxes have too many good players to go down I feel and they have a tendency to raise their game for these types of games, so with that in mind I am going for a narrow win for the home side, perhaps by the only goal of the game.

Leeds United v Brighton – Away Win

What kind of Leeds United will we see against Brighton? Will it be the one that battled to a victory over Southampton and almost grabbed a point against Chelsea last weekend, or will it be the one that has capitulated in a number of games this season? I ask that because I think Brighton have been hugely consistent this season, which has resulted in them being safely ensconced in the top half of the table and pushing hard for a European place next season. A win here would be a big result for the Seagulls and in truth, that is kind of how I see the game going as I think that Brighton have so much quality on the counter attack, allied to a very strong defence, that I think they will pick up the win here.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 12th March

West Ham v Aston Villa – Home Win

Can the real West Ham United stand up please? The Hammers were just a few minutes away from beating Nottm Forest 4-0 and then winning 1-0 away at Old Trafford in the FA Cup. However, they conceded three goals late on against United and then were stuffed 4-0 by Brighton last weekend. That inconsistency cannot continue if West Ham are going to secure their Premier League status for next season and this is now a crucial game for them, as a defeat here to Villa could put them in the drop zone if other results go against them. Villa have won their last two games to move to 11th in the table but I think the home side has enough here to claim what would be a vital win for them.

Fulham v Arsenal – Away Win

Fulham have been superb this season and they lie 7th in the table just below Newcastle and ahead of Brighton, albeit the Seagulls do have three games in hand on the London side. Arsenal are, of course, top of the table and their recent form has been excellent although they are making heavy work of picking up wins, as shown by last weekend’s dramatic 97th minute win over Bournemouth. The Gunners though are always seeming to find a way to win these tough games and you have to admire that resilience, even if it is not good for the stress levels of Arsenal fans. This will be a hard fought London derby game but I am backing the visitors to come away with another big win in their EPL title quest.
