Premier League Accumulator – 20th & 21st February

The fixtures keep coming thick and fast and this weekend we have the usual set of Premier League games to enjoy. There are a total of eight games that are being played across Saturday and Sunday, with one game on Friday and another on Monday night.

It is a big weekend for key games too with a number of important matches at both ends of the table. Fulham take on Sheffield United in a clash of relegation candidates while we also have the Merseyside derby on Saturday evening as Liverpool and Everton lock horns, with the Toffees seeking their first win at Anfield since 1999.

Sunday also sees a number of intriguing fixtures with Aston Villa hosting Leicester City in what promises to be a cracking clash between the two Midlands rivals. This is followed by Manchester City seeking their 18th victory in succession as they travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal who are in the middle of another worrying dip in form.

Finally later on in the evening on Sunday, Manchester United will be hoping their home form continues to improve as they take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford in what should be a chance for three points for the Red Devils. Former centre-half and club captain Steve Bruce will be hoping that his Newcastle side can pull off a shock result though.

Let’s take a look at the games we have put together for our acca this weekend.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 20th February

Southampton v Chelsea – Away Win

Southampton are in the middle of a miserable run of form at the moment and that will be a worry for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl. Chelsea are one of the form teams in the Premier League at the moment and that upturn in results has been built on a much improved defensive performance. Chelsea have conceded just one goal in their last six games, winning five of those matches and that has provided the basis for this improvement. Southampton are a team that have proven to be streaky in terms of form over the last couple of seasons but I can’t see this streak ending at home to Chelsea. I am backing Chelsea to land the win here.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 21st February

West Ham v Tottenham – Away Win

London derby games can be tricky for both teams and given that West Gam are six points ahead of Spurs heading into this one, it is a game that Tottenham cannot afford to lose. Jose Mourinho’s men have dropped to 9th in the table and that is nowhere near good enough for a Spurs side that were top of the table not so long ago. West Ham’s form this season has been excellent and they are more than capable of getting a result here, but I think Liverpool showed that they are susceptible at home and I see Spurs having the players to take advantage of that and claim a much needed victory here.

Aston Villa v Leicester City – Away Win

Both of these two teams will be delighted with how their season has panned out so far. Leicester are third in the table on goal difference from Manchester United, while Aston Villa are 8th but have two games in hand on most teams around them and if they win those, they could move up to fourth in the table. Leicester though have a very good away record in the EPL this season and I think that they will be well-motivated for this game. Villa are strong defensively though so I can see a repeat of the one goal deciding it game but this time, I think it will be the Foxes that land the win.

Arsenal v Manchester City – Away Win

I tried to put a somewhat sugary coating on this review for Arsenal fans, but apart from their FA Cup semifinal success over Manchester City last season, it makes somewhat desperate reading for the Gunners support. City have won nine of the last ten, scoring 25 goals in total, Arsenal mustering just four in reply. In many of those games, City have won by at least three goals. City also come into this game on the back of a 17 game winning run. Arsenal have won just one of their last five games and are languishing in mid-table. Fans hoping City may slip up here won’t take much solace from that and it is not surprising that I have backed City to land a relatively comfortable win here.
