Premier League Matchday 9 Acca – 1st, 2nd October

We hit 50% of the games tipped in the Nations League last week, with the first two games letting me down by a single goal in each, albeit the other two games I called pretty much landed on the money.

It’s the nature of acca betting that this is going to happen, but I am always more concerned when I get the vast majority of results wrong over a sustained period of time, than when it happens in just one or two fixtures.

However, I am hoping that I can get back to winning ways this week as we get back to action in the Premier League, and then with the Champions League and Europa League coming up in the week after, there’s a good run of fixtures through to the World Cup starting at the end of November.

It is a cracking weekend of action to enjoy with the North London derby kicking things off as Arsenal host Tottenham, while there is another London derby at 3pm as Crystal Palace welcome Chelsea to Selhurst Park.

Then on Sunday the two Manchester giants go head to head at the Etihad as City host United in what should be a cracking game between two sides very much in form and also trying to establish themselves at the head of the Premier League table.

Other key games see Liverpool hosting in form Brighton, Fulham taking on Newcastle and two sides surprisingly struggling, West Ham and Wolves face off at the London Stadium.

There is one game on Monday night, as the only team without a win in the Premier League this season, Leicester City,  host the team one place above them at the foot of the table, Nottingham Forest in what is a crucial east Midlands clash between the two.

Anyway, let’s take a look at our tips for the games on Saturday and Sunday this week.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 1st October

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspurs – Draw

Two of the top three meet in the first North London derby of the season and this promises to be an intriguing game. Recent games between the two have tended to see both teams score goals, but I think both teams are now much more solid defensively and more rounded as a team than in the past couple of years and despite them both boasting some great attacking players, that may well make goals tougher to come by. That’s not to say that both teams won’t score in this game, they may well do given their quality in the final third, but I don’t see this being a 3-1 or 3-0 type of game for either team. In fact, I have a feeling that this one is going to be a very tight one with a 0-0 or 1-1 draw probably the most likely outcome.

Fulham v Newcastle United- Draw

Fulham have certainly punched well above their weight in the Premier League this season with them sitting a proud sixth in the table, and Newcastle have lost just once in their seven games, but have drawn five of those matches to lie 10th in the table, probably a little below where you would have expected the team to be. Newcastle’s problem seems to be converting games where they play well into wins and they are going to find it tough against a Fulham side that are brimming with confidence after two wins in their last three games. That said, I still feel Newcastle are too good not to get something here and the trend seems to be for a draw, which is also a good priced option.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 2nd October

Manchester City v Manchester United – Home Win

Away teams have won nine of the last 13 of these encounters between the two Manchester giants and as such, that would seemingly give United the advantage here. However, I can’t really say that given how well City have played this season and also based on the form of Erling Haaland who is setting new records in the Premier League for goalscoring. United though have bounced back after a poor start under Erik Ten Hag and their recent form is excellent and they are certainly going to make life tough for City here. I do fancy United to score a goal, but I think City have so much quality that they will come through in the end to claim the victory.

Leeds United v Aston Villa – Draw

These two teams have had relatively similar starts to the season, Leeds began brightly but their performances have tailed off a little of late picking up just one point from their last three games. Villa started more slowly but have picked up four points from their last two games, including a draw against Manchester City, that could have even been a win but for some shocking officiating. Leeds at home though are a very tough nut to crack as a number of teams have found out already this season, but despite that I am backing the visitors to do enough to come away with a share of the spoils.
