Boxing Day & Beyond EPL Acca Tip – 26th – 28th December

Merry Christmas! And as a special gift, after the month of World Cup action, we can now return back to the Premier League with three sets of fixtures coming up one after the other over the festive period and into the New Year!

I do have to add a small caveat here in that I think this first three sets of games I think could be tricky to predict. In effect, we are having a second ‘start’ of the season and I think to a large extent, the form the teams showed in November when we broke for the World Cup, can somewhat be disregarded a little.

We will have a mix of players who are tired after the World Cup, others who went but who didn’t play much so are rested, while others have had holidays and an effective second pre-season, so I am expecting some weird and unexpected results over this first few sets of games, at least until things settle down once again.

This first set of tips covers the games taking place on Matchday 17, starting on Boxing Day, 26th December, going through to the final game in this set between Leeds United and Manchester City on Wednesday 28th December.

A new set of fixtures then begins on the 30th December, so keep your eyes peeled for those, plus another set is played from the 2nd to 5th January.

It’s going to be interesting to see how these early sets of fixtures play out in comparison to the first part of the season as we have not had anything like this before in the history of the Premier League.

So let’s begin with these four selections for our Boxing Day and beyond accumulator.

Bet Analysis: Monday 26th December

Brentford v Tottenham – Away Win

Tottenham have had a few players involved in the World Cup right up to the Final so it will be interesting to see if the likes of Romero or Lloris play in this game. I imagine they will and they may well need them if Brentford can continue their excellent home form. The Bees have been comfortable in mid-table for most of the season and this will not be an easy game for Spurs, but I think with Kane and Son earning at least a little rest ahead of this game, and Richarlison having a good World Cup too, they may just have the edge here and I can see them snatching the win perhaps with a late winner.

Southampton v Brighton – Draw

A South Coast clash on Boxing Day promises plenty of excitement for fans of both teams. Brighton have been superb this season, although their form had dropped away just before the mid-season break. Southampton, in contrast, have struggled this season and lie in 19th place in the table and parted ways with Ralf Hasenhuttl appointing Nathan Jones in his place. He lost at Anfield 3-1 to Liverpool in his first game and this game probably won’t be much easier. However, he will have had a few weeks to get his team sorted as he wants them to play and as such, I think the Saints could share the points here with the Seagulls.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 27th December

Manchester United v Nottingham Forest – Home Win

Nottingham Forest fans won’t want to recall their last few games with Manchester United, even though they took place over 20 years ago. The last game was an 8-1 home defeat to United and Forest have lost all of their last six to the Red Devils. Their form before the break had improved with just one defeat in their last five to move them off the bottom of the table, but they are still very much a team in transition after signing so many players this season. That break may have helped Forest get some cohesion, but even so I can’t see them having enough to get the better of United at Old Trafford here and I think the home side should win this one comfortably.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 28th December

Leeds United v Manchester City – Away Win

Before the break, I’d have had an easy Manchester City win for this game, and while I still feel the Citizens will take the points, I don’t think it will be as easy as it would have been back in November. The reason for that is City start the season slowly and as this is, in effect, the restart of a season, I think a Leeds team known to be aggressive, fast into the tackle and who can counter very quickly, are a real threat. I could even see City going a goal down here before they come back in the game and secure the points. City beat Leeds twice last season, scoring 11 goals and conceding none. I can’t see tonight’s game being quite that easy but I’m still going with a City win here.
