Bundesliga Acca: Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th June

Even though I only landed one result last week, I was much more pleased with my tips. Two games that didn’t go my way were something of a freak result. Union Berlin should have been three or four up against Schalke before Schalke equalised to get their first point of the period post the lockdown, while Dusseldorf required a late penalty to snatch a draw against Hoffenheim in a game that pretty much went the way I had suggested, bar that late equaliser from the penalty spot.

The only tip I was disappointed by was the Frankfurt v Mainz one as the home side were just awful in that game and Mainz fully deserved the win, but I am finding that these switches in performance from being great in one game, to then being awful in the next has tended to be the case for the lower teams in the Bundesliga in this period.

However, the exciting news is that from this weekend, this will be my last set of Bundesliga-only tips for a while as we have the Premier League starting with a couple of midweek games and then from next weekend, things start in earnest with games most days of the week. I am going to review how best to approach these fixtures and it may be the case that I do a couple of articles per week for the remainder of the season to cover all bases with the games.

But for now, here’s my tips for this coming weekend’s Bundesliga games I have selected for my accumulator.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 13th June

FC Cologne v Union Berlin – Draw

Two sides that can only draw or lose games at the moment meet in Cologne on Saturday in what is a big game for both. Union need points to stave off the drop and while Cologne are a bit safer, a poor run of results could see them dragged into things. However, I think both teams will approach this game perhaps feeling that a point is not too bad as things go, especially with the bottom two facing each other and Dusseldorf facing a tough task at home to Dortmund. As such, I feel a 1-1 draw is the most likely outcome here.

Fortuna Dusseldorf v Borussia Dortmund – Away Win

Dortmund’s win combined with the teams below them all dropping points means that they are now in a very strong position in second place in the table. However, they won’t want to open up any chance for those below them to catch them with a defeat here against relegation-threatened Dusseldorf. Fortuna have lost just one of their last five games but they are still struggling for goals and only earned a draw last week thanks to a last gasp penalty. Dortmund have too much quality on the counter in this one and I can see them recording a relatively comfortable victory here.

Hertha Berlin v Eintracht Frankfurt – Home Win

Even in defeat last week against Dortmund, I saw enough to suggest that the best team outside the top six at the moment is Hertha Berlin. I thought they gave Dortmund a real test and perhaps on another day, could have earned a point. In contrast, Eintracht Frankfurt still continue to blow hot and cold. Hertha are one of the few sides to have got to grips with playing at home with no crowd too, whereas Frankfurt are much more inconsistent. I see both these teams as being very similar sides in many ways, plenty of potential, but I feel Hertha are more on the way to realising that than Eintracht are at the moment. As such, I am backing Hertha to take the win here.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 14th June

Mainz 05 v Augsburg – Draw

I am taking a bit of a gamble with this game, as I feel how this match is approached by both teams will be entirely dependent on the result of the Dusseldorf v Dortmund game on Friday, if, as I predict above, Dortmund win that game, then I feel both these teams will feel that avoiding defeat is the primary objective in this game, rather than securing a win. If Dusseldorf however pull off a shock win, then I think both teams will be desperate to win the game. However, as I have tipped Dortmund to win in Dusseldorf, I can see both managers being more than happy to take a point from this game which would likely keep them clear of Bremen and Dusseldorf below them. As such, I feel this game is most likely to end up as a 0-0 or more likely, 1-1 draw.
