Bundesliga Acca Tip – Sat 23rd & Sun 24th May

Well we may not have had an acca bet of any note over the last couple of months, but it looked like we had hardly been away last weekend as three out of our four tips came roaring in and the only one that let us down was the ease with which Borussia Moenchengladbach won at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Still, armed with a weeks worth of knowledge picked up from watching most of the action over the weekend I’m confident that I can go that one step further this weekend and celebrate the return of football with a win.

We have a couple of cracking games on Saturday, a top five clash between Borussia Moenchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen, while at the same time sixth placed Wolfsburg host second-placed Borussia Dortmund in another cracking game. All of which precedes the massive clash between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday night.

So the Bundesliga is most definitely back with a bang and I am hoping that this selection of tips that I have outlined below will land us with a rather tasty accumulator win.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 23rd May

Borussia Moenchengladbach v Bayer Leverkusen – Home Win

Without doubt, this is the biggest game of the weekend, although Wolfsburg v Dortmund runs it close. Third place Borussia take on fifth place (at the time of writing) Leverkusen in what could be a crucial clash in deciding both the title hopes for both teams, as well as greatly influencing their chances of a Champions League qualification spot. A win for Leverkusen here would be huge but I do worry about the goals that they concede defensively. For all their attacking threat, that has been Leverkusen’s achilles heel. Borussia looked very strong away to Frankfurt last week and while Leverkusen will be a tougher test, I feel home advantage means that they should emerge with what could well be a crucial win in the grand scheme of things at the top of the table this season.

SC Freiburg v Werder Bremen – Home Win

With Werder Bremen playing on Monday night against top five side Bayer Leverkusen, they will have had a couple of days less to prepare than Freiburg, who played on Saturday and I think that this could well be critical in terms of this game. Those extra 48 hours of recovery, in what is essentially a restart of the season could well be crucial. Add to that Freiburg have home advantage, and a decent record at home this season, while Bremen have struggled and languish in the bottom two places of the table, and it is hard to see anything other than a win for the home side here. My one worry is that SC Freiburg do tend to blow a little hot and cold from time to time, but I feel that playing at home, they should have enough, even on a slightly off day, to get the job done here.

Paderborn v Hoffenheim – Draw

Both these teams suffered disappointing results in their first week back in action. Paderborn earned a point away to Dusseldorf, but that didn’t close the gap on safety any with Mainz also picking up a point. Hoffenheim were well beaten at home by Hertha Berlin and now they face a tricky trip on the road to the bottom side in the Bundesliga. Ordinarily, I’d have backed Hoffenheim to win this, but they looked so far off the pace against Hertha Berlin, especially in the second half, that I struggle to see them getting a result even against the bottom side in the division. Paderborn have struggled this season and I can’t see them having enough to win either, hence I am backing a draw in this one.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 24th May

Schalke 04 v Augsburg – Draw

What happens when two teams who have lost four of their last five, drawn the other and who both lost last weekend in crucial games, meet up the week after? Both David Wagner and Heiko Herrlich will know that stopping the rot in terms of defeats is a must and as such, I think both will be more mindful of avoiding defeat than actually winning this game. Of the two, Augsburg played better against Wolfsburg last weekend that Schalke did in the Reiverderby with Dortmund. In truth, I saw two teams that don’t create very much, struggling against better opponents. Neither side fills me with any confidence that they can win this game regardless of their league positions, hence I am going for the draw here.
