Bundesliga Acca Tips: Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May

My word, what a terrible few months it has been, made all the worse by the lack of football to distract us from what is going on. However, there is a chink of light at the end of the tunnel in the form of the return to action of one of European football’s biggest leagues, the Bundesliga, this coming weekend.

Now normally, our focus tends to be on the Premier League, but we have included Bundesliga game in our bets in the past, often with a high percentage of success, so for this weekend and until other leagues are in the same position to restart, we are going to focus our attention on the Bundesliga for the time being.

Included in this weeks games is a cracking Rhineland derby between Dortmund and Schalke 04 as well as a number of clashes between teams in the top half of the table. Bayern Munich, the current leaders, are playing Sunday away to the newly promoted Union Berlin in what is our game from Sunday.

It feels really good to be back and giving you some tips again as, with the best wishes in the world, the Belarus league wasn’t really as attractive an option (and my knowledge of  FC Slutsky is pretty limited to be honest). So hopefully, things can continue improving and over the coming weeks and months we can at least get back to some degree of normality, even if for now these games are played behind closed doors.

Here’s my tips for this weekend’s games.

Bet Analysis: Saturday 16th May

Augsburg v Wolfsburg – Away Win

This is one of those selections where the value bet looks to be too good to be true. Wolfsburg, who are in the top eight, take on an Augsburg team fighting relegation. Both teams form heading into the enforced break was sharply contrasting, Augsburg in relegation form while Wolfsburg were flying. The only doubt for me here is whether the break will have taken the edge out of Wolfsburg for this one, or given Augsburg a chance to regroup. However I feel any home advantage for Augsburg here is negated by the lack of fans and as such, that makes me tend towards backing Wolfsburg to land the victory.

Borussia Dortmund v Schalke 04 – Home Win

It’s the Reiverderby, also known as the Rhine Derby, between two teams who share one of the most passionate rivalries in the Bundesliga. Although Dortmund have enjoyed the lion’s share of success over the years, Schalke have had a couple of good seasons from time to time and this is another as they lie 6th in the table. They also have a good record in Dortmund in recent years, drawing one game (coming back from 4-0 down to draw 4-4) and winning the other of the last two between the teams in Dortmund. However, with Dortmund seeking to haul in Bayern at the top of the table, and without the fans in attendance, I think Dortmund’s extra quality will be decisive here and land them the win.

E.Frankfurt v Borussia Moenchengladbach – Draw

These two teams have had very different experiences this season to last. Frankfurt were flying high last season and reached the Europa League semifinals, but the loss of a number of key players has seen them fall well off the pace in the Bundesliga this season to drop to 12th in the table. Borussia, in contrast, have been very consistent and lie in fourth place in the table and in with a real chance of Champions League football next season. That said, Frankfurt’s recent form had been better before the break, while Borussia had stuttered a couple of times. As such, I think this one will be a closely fought out draw.

Bet Analysis: Sunday 17th May

Union Berlin v Bayern Munich – Away Win

Bayern Munich were the team on a roll before the enforced break from action, but the current champions of Germany will be well-prepared and rested ahead of the game against the promoted side Union Berlin. Berlin have done well to move into mid-table in the Bundesliga but they have struggled against the top teams at times and the form Bayern Munich were in does make this a game which should go with the form book. It remains to be seen how the empty grounds affects the teams, or if the enforced break has affected fitness levels, but even so, I’d expect Bayern Munich to emerge with a comfortable win here.
