Champions League Acca – Matchday 4 – 7th, 8th November

The Champions League is back this week and we have the return legs of the matches that took place a couple of weeks back on Matchday 3 of the competition.

That saw a couple of surprising results, Celtic drawing with Atletico Madrid, Arsenal easing to a win in Spain over Sevilla, Newcastle losing at home to Borussia Dortmund. But we also saw Manchester United gain their first win in the tournament over Copenhagen, Bayern made it three wins from three, as did Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City.

It is about this time that we start to see the first teams qualify for the knockout phase and there are a couple that could do that if results go their way in this set of games.

Big matches this week see Celtic make the return trip to Spain to take on Atletico Madrid, Arsenal take on Sevilla at the Emirates, Manchester United travel to Denmark for their return game against Copenhagen, while Manchester City have a home game against Young Boys knowing that a win will confirm them as qualified for the knockout phase.

There’s also two massive games in Group F with Dortmund hosting Newcastle after their 1-0 win at St James Park, while Milan will take on Paris St Germain in Italy knowing that to keep in touch in this group they need a win.

As per usual, I am going to go through the games on Tuesday and Wednesday and give you my tips for a Champions League fourfold this week.

Champions League Bet Analysis: Tuesday 7th November

Borussia Dortmund v Newcastle United – Draw

Last week, the German side came to St James Park bottom of the table, while Newcastle were looking to pick up another win to stay to of the table on seven points. However, the Germans grabbed the lead in the first half and played a clever defensive game to hang on to the win against a surprisingly lacklustre Newcastle. That said, Dortmund will be looking to get another win on home soil and after winning in England, they are likely to have plenty of home support urging them on to do it. However I feel Newcastle’s form since should give them confidence here of claiming something from this game and as such, while I can’t see a Newcastle win here, I do feel they will do enough to claim a point.

AC Milan v Paris St Germain – Away Win

It is pretty much do or die time for AC Milan in the group stages once again. After being beaten by PSG last time out, they have just two points from two draws in their opening two games but they are facing a team that can catch anybody on the counter attack, especially with Kylian Mbappe in fine form. The French side have lost 4-1 on the road to Newcastle but after heading top of the group with the win last time out, they will feel that they can get something from this game in Italy. I do think this will be a close one, but I think that PSG speed on the counter attack will be the difference maker in this game.

Champions League Bet Analysis: Wednesday 8th November

Arsenal v Sevilla – Home Win

Arsenal picked up a huge win on the road in Spain when these teams last met a couple of weeks ago, which mitigates their surprising loss to Lens on Matchweek 2. That result leaves Arsenal top of the group, one point ahead of Lens, but four ahead of Sevilla and PSV who occupy third and fourth in the group with two points each. Therefore, a win here for Arsenal would put them in an outstanding position in this group, but a loss would really open the group up a great deal. However, I can’t see Arsenal falling to another defeat here with such a crucial game on the line. Sevilla have had some sticky times this season and they will not want to play the Gunners in London. As such, I am going to go for Arsenal to land a relatively comfortable win here.

FC Copenhagen v Man Utd – Home Win

Manchester United grabbed a hugely important win in the game between these two at Old Trafford thanks to a Harry Maguire goal and an Andre Onana penalty save. However, it is easy to forget that Copenhagen arguably had the much better of the chances in that game, hitting the post with one, and this second game between the two will be in Copenhagen, where they have already proven to be tough to beat holding Galatasaray to a draw there. Having see United look so toothless at home against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, I can’t see them having enough to get anything from this game either. They do look like a team in disarray and I think the Danish side will take advantage here.
