Champions League Acca – Week 2 – 3rd and 4th October

Last time out in the Champions League we were just one AC Milan goal away from a win of over £216 to add to the win we landed on the first week of the season.

So it is fair to say that after the mainly positive results of Week 1 of the Group Stages, I am raring to go on this second set of games, which will be played across Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

For some teams, it is a chance to put a Week One defeat or draw behind them and claim a win. For others, it is a chance to earn a maximum six points and take a strong position at the head of the group.

There are some cracking games taking place this week across the competition including Inter v Benfica, PSV Eindhoven v Sevilla, Man Utd v Galatasaray, Napoli v Real Madrid, Dortmund v Milan, Celtic v Lazio, Porto v Barcelona and my favourite game this week Newcastle v Paris St Germain – arguably the two richest clubs in world football.

Oh and we have Manchester City’s trip to RB Leipzig, while Arsenal head to northern France to take on a struggling Lens side.

Add all those to the other matches and it’s little wonder that this set of tips for our Champions League acca has taken a bit of sorting out, but I am confident that it should go well once again.

Let’s take a closer look at the tips I’ve backed this week.

Champions League Bet Analysis: Tuesday 3rd October

Inter Milan v Benfica – Home Win

These teams come into this game with contrasting results behind them. Benfica had a nightmare against Salzburg at home, conceding two penalties, having a man sent off and they went down to a surprise 2-0 defeat. Inter went behind early against Real Sociedad in Spain but battled back late in the game to score an equaliser through Lautaro Martinez and that now gives them a chance to put some clear daylight between themselves and the team many felt would be their main challengers. I can’t see a game packed with goals to be honest as neither side looks likely to rattle in four goals, but I think Inter probably have the better quality and more-rounded team and as such, I would back them to land the win here.

Napoli v Real Madrid – Draw

These two teams are the favourites to progress from their group and both began with a win last time around. Real defeating Union Berlin with a last gasp Jude Bellingham strike, while Napoli got the better of Braga in Portugal, winning the game 2-1 thanks to an 88th minute own goal. I think what those results show us is that this group may be a lot closer than we expected when the teams were drawn out of the bowls earlier this season. Napoli have misfired a little at the start of this season and have lost a couple of games in Serie A, while Real Madrid have experienced defeat for the first time at the weekend, losing the Madrid derby 3-1 to Atletico. This is a tough game for Real after a busy couple of weeks and I think a draw is the best result they are likely to get here.

Champions League Bet Analysis: Wednesday 4th October

Newcastle Utd v Paris St Germain – Away Win

What a cracking game lies in store here as the two richest clubs in world football meet for the first time in Europe’s richest club competition. Newcastle got a creditable 0-0 draw away to AC Milan in their opener while Paris St Germain battled hard to secure a 2-0 win over Dortmund. An injury to Kylian Mbappe is a worry for them ahead of this game but if he can be fit for the match, then Newcastle’s defence is going to have to come up with a way to stop the world’s best player at present. I can make a case for any result in this game, PSG started the season slowly but have hit form now and so have Newcastle, but I think on the counter attack, PSG may just have a little too much here and will claim a narrow win.

Red Bull Leipzig v Manchester City – Away Win

Manchester City defeated Leipzig on their way to the Champions League trophy last season, with a 7-0 win at the Etihad showing the gulf in class between the two teams. However, Leipzig have started the season very well in Germany and they are itching to get back at City after that humiliation last season. City’s form has been solid if not spectacular, but they have still won all the games that they have played this season, bar the Community Shield. I was tempted a little by the draw here, but I can’t back against City here, even without their talisman Kevin de Bruyne.
