Champions League Quarter finals 2nd Leg Tips – 18th, 19th April

Last week’s tips in the Champions League saw me hit 50% of the games though I was a little surprised that Benfica and Napoli, two of the strongest teams in the tournament so far, we’re well off their pace in their games against Inter and Milan respectively.

First leg ties can be cagey affairs but I think the handbrake will well and truly be off in the second leg especially for those teams that are behind from the first leg.

That includes Bayern Munich, who were well beaten by a rampant Manchester City at the Etihad, as well as Benfica and Napoli who both suffered somewhat unexpected defeats.

Chelsea’s game with Real Madrid looks the toughest test on paper though as Real hold a 2-0 lead from the first leg and you just know that they are going to be ready to get at the Chelsea back line on the counter attack with the likes of Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and of course Karim Benzema, who scored a hat-trick at Stamford Bridge last season for Real, likely to be a massive threat.

Of course, with these all being second leg ties that must be decided on the night, even if extra time or penalties are required, that does alter the dynamic of the game and I’ve tried to take those considerations into account with these tips.

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 18th April

Chelsea (0) v (2) Real Madrid – Away Win

Chelsea came away from the first leg in Madrid on the back of a 2-0 defeat and they will also have Ben Chilwell suspended for the return leg after he was sent off in the game for denying Rodrygo a goalscoring opportunity. To be fair to Chelsea, they didn’t play too badly in Madrid, but they were caught out once or twice by some clever attacking play by Madrid who took those chances, Chelsea sadly, never really created anything clear cut and the chances they did have they found their former keeper Thibaut Courtois in fine form. I actually feel this may be the more difficult leg for Chelsea as at 2-0 down they have to push to get the win here but Real can counter attack on teams so effectively and that is why I have gone for the away win here.

Napoli (0) v (1) AC Milan – Draw

If one team seems to have the indian sign over Napoli at the moment, it is AC Milan. Fresh from beating the Neapolitans 4-0 in Naples just a few weeks back, the Rossonieri produced a sound, tactically excellent and defensively superb display at home to take a 1-0 lead into the second leg through a goal from Benacer. The home side will be without two key players as both Zambo Anguissa, who was sent off in the 74th minute of the first leg, and Kim Min-jae, who was booked late on too, means they will be suspended from the second leg. With the fitness of Victor Osimhen not certain, I feel Milan, who have not lost away to Napoli in four years, may do just enough to claim the draw they need to go through to the semifinals.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 19th April

Bayern Munich (0) v (3) Manchester City – Home Win

It is fair to say that while the 3-0 scoreline flattered Manchester City in the home leg, there was no doubt that City deserved to win the game. Bayern had some good passages of play, but struggled to create clear cut chances against the home side, whereas City were lightning fast going forward and created all sorts of problems for the Bayern defence who seemed shell-shocked by the second half onslaught in particular. Erling Haaland was the man who created one and scored one of the two second half strikes for City and he is going to be a real threat on the counter in this game too. Bayern though rarely lose at home to any team and they’ll believe that they can get back into this game, whether they can win it by enough to force extra time or even win the game, I am not sure, but I do feel they will land a win, but it may not be enough to go through.

Inter Milan (2) v (0) Benfica – Home Win

I think the best performance of the night away from home came from Inter who went to the Stadium of Light and defeated a very good Benfica side 2-0. Inter do have a tendency to produce good results like this, they beat Liverpool at Anfield in the tournament last year but in vain as they had lost the home leg 2-0. Their performances this season under Simone Inzaghi have been a little hot and cold but when they play well, they are a real threat to any team. I was surprised at Benfica’s meek performance in the first leg and I don’t give them much of a chance of improving on things at the San Siro on Wednesday night either.
