Champions League Quarterfinals 1st Leg Tips – 11th & 12th April

The Champions League is back this week with the first legs of the four quarter final ties across four countries offering us a really interesting selection of games to put together into an acca.

On Tuesday night we have Benfica hosting Inter Milan in what I believe is probably the toughest of all four games to predict and we also have a massive game at the Etihad as Manchester City take on Bayern Munich in what is a clash between two of the pre-season favourites to win the tournament.

Then Wednesday night sees an all-Italian clash at the San Siro, where AC Milan face Napoli just a short time after they shocked the league leaders in Naples, securing a 0-4 victory in Serie A. Napoli will be very well aware of the problems Milan gave them in that game barely ten days ago.

At the same time Real Madrid will be facing their fifth English team in succession in the knockout phase of the tournament as they renew acquaintances with Chelsea for the third year in a row in this tournament. Chelsea knocked out the Spaniards in 2021, but Real were winners last year and with Chelsea’s issues and struggles this season, it will be an interesting game for sure.

I’m having to get these tips together a little earlier than I would usually do due to the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, but having been so close on my acca in midweek last week (and not sure how my weekend tips got on at the time of writing!) let’s hope we can land a winner with this set of tips!

And remember to check back on Thursday for my Europa League acca tip too!

Bet Analysis: Tuesday 11th April

Benfica v Inter – Home Win

Inter Milan’s form of late has not been the best, with three defeats in their last five in Serie A. Benfica have been much more solid but they are not infallible as they showed when losing to FC Porto at home ten days ago. However, in Europe, I think Benfica have been by far the more impressive performers of the two. Inter scraped through against FC Porto in the last round, as the Portuguese side were wasteful in front of goal and Inter hung on to win 1-0. Benfica thrashed Club Brugge to make easy progress into the quarterfinals and while I expect Inter to work hard defensively, I think that the home side have enough quality to get a narrow lead to take with them into the second leg.

Man City v Bayern Munich – Home Win

Two of the best attacking teams in the world will clash over two legs, with the first at the Etihad on Tuesday as Manchester City take on Bayern Munich. Both teams are in solid form heading into this game, particularly City, but they will be facing a Bayern Munich side who dumped Paris St Germain out of the competition in the last round. City smashed seven past German opposition in the last round, Red Bull Leipzig on the receiving end of that mauling. With Erling Haaland set to come back for City and Bayern likely to be close to full strength, this is a match that should see goals at both ends, but I think City will do enough to take a lead into the second leg in Germany.

Bet Analysis: Wednesday 12th April

AC Milan v Napoli – Away Win

Napoli have been running away with the Serie A title and have been superb in Europe this season but they recently suffered a really surprising 0-4 defeat at home to…AC Milan. That result adds plenty of spice into this game which when initially drawn looked likely to be a relatively comfortable chance to progress for Napoli but which now looks much tougher. I’d still expect Napoli to win and they may well do that on the road as in the last eight games between these two teams, the home team has not won the game. As such, I feel Napoli may do enough to land a narrow win on the road here.

Real Madrid v Chelsea – Home Win

Real Madrid’s opponents in the knockout phase of the Champions League since last year read: Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Liverpool and now Chelsea. So it is fair to say Carlo Ancelotti’s team are not fazed by taking on English opponents in this competition. Chelsea now have Frank Lampard back in charge, even if it is just until the end of the season, and he will be hoping he can get the better of his former manager in this tie. I can’t see Chelsea getting a win here or even a draw to be honest such has been their form this season, but I also feel that the Londoners will keep themselves in this game and will only head into the second leg a goal behind.
